And The Results Are...

I've got news on all fronts. The boy is the most important so I'll start with him. (See, I'm not the world's worst mom, just a bad one.) He's one of the few percentages that do have strep and chicken pox at the same time. Aren't we lucky? And these two, together, can sometimes pool together their nasty viral germiness and create something altogether new, called (in laymans terms) a flesh eating bacteria. How fun is that?! I'm officially a tiny bit freaked out over this. I know the chances are slim to none that this will actually happen, but do you see what our luck has been so far this year? Have you been reading the past few days' chronicle of our family's misadventures? The doctor couldn't stress enough that I not miss one single dose of his antibiotics. NOT ONE!!! As in, set alarms to remind myself. This is the one single defense against this bacteria. So the boy went to bed early last night and I didn't wake him to medicate him. See what kind of bad mom that I am?

And the saga continues. I had all the kids vaccinated against this. We're hoping that he gets a light case because of it. But after I came home the doctor called and said they have record that he had the chicken pox already, back in '00, but not the vaccine. I'm pretty sure I'd remember something like this, and I don't. They also have record that the daughter had chicken pox in '98. Um, that was also incorrect. Methinks that the nurse inaccurately recorded the vaccine as actually having the disease. They're usually on top of things and this surprises me, but it's my word against theirs at this point. The only trouble being that they can't report a case of actual pox to the vaccine company because they don't have record that he's been vaccinated.

This whole thing kinda cracks me up. Because there's a vaccine for the chicken pox now, the medical profession is treating it like the plague. They were first in disbelief that he could even have the pox. When I described them, they had to concur that it was, indeed, suspicious. Could we bring him in immediately, before other patients arrive, and then sit in the car until they tapped on the window to let us sneak in? And then could we use the back entrance when we leave? Because there are other patients in the waiting room now. Yeh, we should probably just put a black stripe across our door and declare ourselves diseased. The way they're acting, he may be lucky to survive. I am happy to report, though, that he's a trooper like none I've seen. He cried a bit that he couldn't be in school for a week, but he's up and running, eating and drinking and doing very well considering he should be on his deathbed. This shocks the socks off me because this is the kid that gets hit hard when he gets things. What barely phases the others knocks him out for days. And he's got this double whammy of immense proportions and hardly realizes it. God is good.

And now on to the dogs. The lab is getting better by leaps and bounds and in another day or so could probably leap and bound herself. From what I'm able to determine from a Google search, it's a pinched nerve or something of the sort. Thank goodness she's doing well.

And the corgi lost her virginity to a syringe. She was humiliated, violated and degraded. The not-so-studly male was violated as well, and did not enjoy it either, but I have little pity for him. The vet was impressed with his lack of libido, which of course means that there must be an underlying medical problem. We made an appointment with our own vet to have his thyroid checked because that's the cheapest, easiest thing to start with. Here's hoping that he can be repaired and go on to fulfill his duties here. And that our girl, with her 40% chance of having this humiliation be successful, has a large litter of puppies to show for the money we just forked over to have someone violate our dogs.

Life just keeps going on.

I'm sorry about the chicken pox but glad your son seems to be feeling pretty good. That's pretty scary about the bacteria. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Now that you've seen how it's done, maybe you could get a turkey baster and do the job yourself :) Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Never a dull moment at your place, it sounds! :) I'm surprised you didn't cry along with your son when the news was told that he'd be out of school for a week (I so would have!). I hope and pray that your son heals quickly (and without any signs of that 'flesh eating bacteria'!) :)

I don't think you intended to make me laugh but I did just a little when I read this entry. The dog humiliation was just too funny!

WOW - your New Year has started out darn sh***y - hasn't it? I'm sorry about your son and you better set those alarms - I don't want to be reading any posts about flesh eating viruses going around at your house. Glad you got the little girl dog taken care of - can't wait to hear about the pups. Have a good weekend. Kellan

Karen is this MRSA? We're having outbreaks of it our here by us, too.

Oy on the dogs. You would think the humping part would not be a problem. Who ever heard of AI for dogs?

I hope things settle down soon and that your other kids don't get sick, too.

Remember when moms would get all their kids together to visit families with chicken pox, to get it all over with at once? I'm so glad your son is handling it well. Take good care of yourself in the middle of all of this!

Ho. ly. CRAP! I am so sorry! Chicken pox rot, but WITH strep that is just plain old MEAN. I'm glad he's doing so well though. Poor kid!

By the way, since I know HE'S okay, I feel alright asking, how are YOU through all this?

I'm so sorry to hear he's got both strep and chicken pox! He must be feeling miserable :( I've always heard that even if you do get the vaccine you can still get a very mild case of chicken pox.

Kayla once broke out in a rash that I thought was chicken pox and when I called the clinic they did the same thing to me too - come in the back door, don't go to the waiting room, someone will meet you here - we wouldn't want any other kids to get infected etc...lol

I hope it clears up soon!

HOLY CRAP! It's really a good thing you followed your instincts and made the trip to the doctor. That is the worst kind of luck right there. I hope he continues to feel all right and that you are able to maintain your sanity through the whole thing.

Also, fingers crossed that no one else catches any of his crappy germs.

I think I also might be feeling bad for the pups. That's some serious violation right there. But, you know, if Mr. Corgi would just his game on, then it wouldn't have come to this, now would have it?

Strep and chicken pox at the same time? Poor kid! I actually wished my kids got chicken pox because our doctor said there's not much research about the vaccine. Maybe he's a little lucky?

Thank goodness Josh is okay! Or at least feeling okay. You know I've heard of people who plan "chicken pox parties" where if one kid gets it, the other moms bring their kids over too to expose them so they can go ahead and get it over with. Why?!

As for the dogs -- well, I think the person who has been violated was the person who had to, um, service your male. Though I suppose they're used to that sort of thing! :) Here's hoping for Happy Results!

I was sort of wondering if Josh's strep turned to scarlet fever at first...but chicken pox looks way different I guess. I know I certainly won't forget how itchy it was. Glad he seems to be doing alright, all things considered.

And um, here's hoping your dogs' violations are worthwhile! :)
