Dumb and Dumber

As the weather outside is not so very good, we woke up to find a car stuck in the ditch across from our house. This happens every winter. I usually feel bad for the person, thinking that they must have been late to work, and now they're even later. Hopefully they didn't have kids with them! In the age of cell phones, we never get to meet these people. Back in the day (like when I was my kids' age) these people would knock on my parents' door at all hours of the day and night and ask the kindly farmer to pull them out with a tractor. This was always tons of winter entertainment for us.

Today was no different. About mid-morning a pickup came to pull it out. Since this has proven to be endless fun in the past, we all stood with our noses pressed against our windows, watching. They tried pulling it out from the back bumper. No go. They tried hooking up the tow chain to the front bumper. Nowhere to hook it for fear of pulling off the bumper. Back to square one, and the back bumper. They managed to get it out of the ditch but What Ho! The idiot being pulled failed to apply the brakes and slid right down the road and crashed into the bumper of the truck! Definitely worth the watch. He broke out a taillight on his own vehicle but the truck, thankfully, was unharmed.

Since he'd backed up over so much of the chain, and was smack up against the truck bumper, he decided to pull up so they could unhook and drive on. So the guy gets in the car, puts the pedal to the metal, and I watch in disbelief as the slack comes out of the chain quickly and the bumper of the truck almost comes off. Could this guy be any stupider? (Because you've gotta use a stupid word to describe a stupid person.) Now I know how he got into the ditch in the first place. It was so worth watching.

I'm glad I've never been in that situation. I would definitely make every wrong decision, like that guy.

But it must've been fun to watch.

That is precisely the kind of crud that happens to Jon and I all the time. You would so be nose pressing and laughing at us!!!

Yikes, was the truck covered in brown fur and did it have floppy ears and a nose?

It sounds like it should have!! I would have been laughing my butt off!

Just to make things clear, I CAN laugh at these idiots. A few years ago I was the idiot who slid off our own driveway into our field and had to have my husband pull me out with the backhoe.

And after a year of laughing at me, he was the idiot who slid off our driveway into our field and, being a man, thought he could just drive right out. He succeeded in plowing himself further downfield into deeper snow before getting the backhoe to pull himself out.

Yep. Who needs cable?

All that happens in my front yard is the garbage truck goes by once in a while. Sigh.

Camcorder, Karen. What with the writer's strike, that could have been my evening entertainment.

Since I've had my own fair share of incidents (um, yeah, when there's four feet of snow on the ground, you can't really tell the difference between a ditch and the road--just sayin'), I totally would have loved getting to watch the stupidness.

Good thing you were watching, you could have missed a good show. We don't see too much of that in my neighborhood. Maria

I love to watch people get out of jams. Whenever I find myself in a bind like that I try to remember that someone could be watching my every move so I'd better not do anything stupid.

I wish I had entertaiment like that in my front window... I'm jealous!

Happy New Year!

Isn't there a movie named after that dude: Stupid and Stupider? haha.

The only thing that works better than a truck towing you out?

The Varsity football team pushing the front of the car (the end IN the ditch) while being pulled from the rear (gotta love daddies everywhere!).....

Yep. THAT was my first winter ever driving. In my first ever snowstorm.

*sigh* I really love football players. ;)

You northerners and your endless fun! I'm so not jealous. :) My first accident was on an icy hill, so I probably would have been laughing my butt off, but feeling his pain.

Nothing is better entertainment than snow and ditches.

Where I grew up, there was a hill in front of our house that seemed to always bring out the most skilled drivers. And 99% of the time they would end up stuck at the top of our driveway - which needed a 4wd to get out of. And we'd sit, with our noses pressed up against the picture window, and watch the old farmer from across the street pull them out with his tractor. :-)

When we were in high school, my husband actually used to ride around town and make money, pulling people out of ditches on bad nights.

Snow is wonderful! :-)

This is another reason why I hate snow. People turn in to stupid drivers. And the good drivers still have problems cuz the snow is dangerous!! Can you tell I have had ENOUGH of this white stuff?

Good grief! What a doofus! Maybe he was from the south -- but no, we know ALL about getting out of ditches! :)

At least you have something to keep you entertained. It's just freaking cold down here.

I think what I find most amusing about this is the fact that it was two men. You know, the gender that does everything right, can drive better than women and never hesitate to let us know these things.

heh! that was the funniest thing I've heard in a while!

We don't get much entertainment here in DC, well, except for the political people, and they don't seem to drive too much, or else they might actually do something about the traffic.

Oh, sorry. :( I'll get off my soapbox (can you tell I'm bitter about my commute today?)
