Martha Stewart I Am Not

I will admit to not having the best housekeeping skills in the domestic world. In fact, my housekeeping skills suck. And I'm okay with that. My family is trying to adjust.

I have been known to pull things from the dirty laundry heap to do dusting. It's just so handy, right there in our bedroom, to do bedroom dusting with. And it's already dirty and needs washed so it's not like I'm making more work for myself. Consider it multi-tasking, if you will.

One day as I was diligently eradicating our bedroom's accumulation of dust bunnies, I noticed a smell. Micah was in the room with me and I figured he needed a change. Mental note: when I'm done dusting, change the boy. Do not forget this.

When I finished, I tossed the handy dust rag back into the laundry heap. THEN I realized that it was a pair of the kids underwear, with a skid mark.

Yeh, my housekeeping skills suck big time.

***We are headed out of state to visit Sam's brother before he's deployed this spring. It'll be an extended weekend with little to no computer use. Just so you know that I wasn't killed in the school meeting. We're hitting the road immediately following the cookie party. And I thank everyone for their kind thoughts regarding the get-together tomorrow to discuss my littlest one's schooling options. I have every confidence we'll all come to the same conclusion - that we'll do what we need to to help him succeed.

Um, yeah. I don't think I'll be hiring you to dust my house anytime soon. And I will always verify the dirty laundry I use to dust is free of skid marks.

Drive safe, have a great weekend, and enjoy your time with your BIL!

I multitask too. Whenever the kids splash too much water , I soak and old towel mopping it up and then scoot it all over my dirty floors for a spit mop! Hope you made another pass over everything with a Lysol soaked rag! Have fun on your trip and good luck with school decisions. I feel torn right now what to do with my twins.

Definitely gross. See why it's better not to dust?

Karen said...

Suburban - I agree, dusting isn't good.

I have to clarify that the skid mark was inside and didn't touch anything. Still gross, I know, but not as bad as it could have been.

Hmmm. Maybe you should dust with Lysol next time?

Drive safe.

I also take whatever is on the top of the hamper to dust with...but I dust ...uhm once a year LOL

I do give the kids each a baggie on saturdays and pay them a quarter to fill them up with cat hair!

(we have all wood flooring and the hair accumulates like you would not believe in corners!)

Blue - I believe. We have a corgi (or several) that sheds handfuls by the minute. I have the kids tricked into thinking the vaccuum hose is a treat only to be used on special occasions, and if they're good they can suck up all the little hairy tumbleweeds.

Too funny. Yes - I've been known to dust with dirty clothes too. Hubbies t-shirts work well. Underwear? LOL

Have a safe trip and enjoy your visit!

This is GOLDEN. So so funny. Man, I love laughing. Much more than I love dusting.

I think Martha Stewart would have had a stroke upon hearing your story! LOL!

Have a safe weekend. Wish your BIL Godspeed for me.

You should submit that to Martha Stewart's magazine. Maybe she will take pity on you and come clean your house for free!

Ooh, guilty here too.

Why not use something from the dirty clothes basket to pickup those dust bunnies?

However, I generally stick with the towels and such. Inevitably one of them is still damp and makes a better rag.

Have a great road trip.

I sometimes do that too. Well okay I do it a lot, but only when dusting and that, I have to admit is not that often. I am a lously house keeper!!

Good luck at your cookie "party" and have a good trip. I hate deployment good byes. My DS's dad just got back from Iraq.

One time in 3rd grade, I had to go take a poop and when I finished in the bathroom, there was no t.p. So i sat there for what seemed like hours for the janitor to come restock, but he never did. So I finally just put my pants back on and finished the day. Then when I got home, I took off my underwear and tossed them in the corner of the laundry room. Trust me, there was more than a skid mark.

So be happy you didn't grab that pair.

Have fun this weekend! I hope you've packed clean underwear for everyone.

ha! I'm dying with all this skid mark talk. When I was in high school my friends called them scattered thunder browns... that being said, I hope you have a great, relaxing weekend!

That is too funny! I am domestically challenged when it comes to cooking. I once substituted clam chowder in a recipe that called for mayo. I didn't have any mayo and I figured clam chowder - white
mayo - whit

clam chowder - thick and slimy
mayo - thick and slimy

Didn't work out so well...

Skid marks on underwear...I have never heard that expression but it is so funny!

I'm with suburban...just don't dust. Install dimmer switches and lower the lights. The dust disappears!

Have a great weekend and safe traveling!

You are too funny, I can honestly say that is one I have not done before. I always had the task of dusting as a kid, hate it and will gladly pass on that job. It has to be pretty bad before I tackle the task.

Hope your trip goes well. Please pass on a Huge Heartfelt THANK YOU.

LOL! OMG that was funny!

(saw you at Melissa's--just wanted to take a peek--so glad I did--I'll be back! for sure)

Too funny! I'm allergic to dust, so I have the best excuse for hiring a cleaning service--I can't do the dusting (hubby doesn't do it) but I can't have it build up or my allergies go crazy. Ah, it's nice to have an excuse not to do the cleaning myself.

I hope you guys have a great trip! I'm also crossing my fingers that the school situation works out to be great for Micah.

HAHA! I grab stuff from the dirty clothes pile to dust with sometimes too!

I'm kinda of the opinion that dusting isn't worth the bother anyways!

Momisodes said...

Oh my! I totally do that too. Thanks for the warning :)

Hope you have a safe trip...and good luck.

You know I seem to find many of those so called dust rags, hiding behind the kids toliet all the time. Have you been cleaning at my house?
