Her Fairy Forgetfulness

The Tooth Fairy is such a childhood icon. I mean, who doesn't dream of quarter-bearing winged beings upon losing their first tooth? (And I am well aware that inflation has hit the Land of Make Believe. Quarters are squat.)

But think about it. Even in the Land of Make Believe, that winged woman is getting some age on her. It's a wonder she can fly with all the sag that must be going on. I imagine her like a white Tinker Bell. And I'm imagining that she isn't so very perky anymore. And has probably traded her short and tight little number for something more tent-like. This also must hinder the aerodynamics. And that accounts for her extreme delay in getting around in a timely manner on her tooth trading mission.

I don't know how things are at your place, but that age-hindered woman is failing miserably at our house. In fact, just last week Luke lost a tooth. And then he lost it. He looked for 2 days and was in tears because how on earth could he get any money when he couldn't find the tooth that he so painstakingly lost? So I devised a plan. We'd write a note to the Tooth Fairy and explain to her that Luke really did lose a tooth and that it came up missing. Could she, perchance, believe us and come reward Luke anyway? I told Luke to put the note on his dresser and see what the Tooth Fairy decided.

And made a mental note that if the Tooth Fairy blew this one she'd be on the kids' black list for years.

But Josh and Luke conspired together and realized that the note on the dresser might not be enough. They taped it to the bedroom door and hung an envelope underneath where the money could be deposited. Their reasoning? The Tooth Fairy forgets a lot and we wanted to get her attention.

In case you can't read the fine print, the note at the bottom says "pleas money in card." And it's signed by Josh, who also signed my name. Apparently the Tooth Fairy needs all the encouragement that she can get. Age bites.

And yes. That's a dollar bill in there. The Tooth Fairy can be shamed into being generous.

I feel the Tooth Fairy's pain. Sometimes it takes the Tooth Fairy two or three nights to remember to leave money when she stops in.

Hahaha! Way to go, boys...make sure the tooth fairy feels guilty ;)

I am dreading when Alex starts to loose teeth. I'm sure she will take many nights to remember to drop in.

Hey, the tooth fairy made it. Kudos to her! I've read SOOO many stories lately about the tooth fairy being delayed due to children in Europe losing teeth and running out of money for the night and having to hit ATMs and more....

At what age does the tooth fairy generally begin visiting anyway?

Ha! You beat me to the punch! I was going to insist you read this post, but never mind.

That's hysterical. An old saggy granny tooth fairy that can't remember, love it.

Have you heard the one about the little boy who left a note with his last tooth. It had been with him the longest, didn't have any cavaties, and he thought that this particular tooth should bring a better than average price.
His note said."Dear Fairy, this is my best tooth and the last one since it is so good could you please leave me ten dollars for it?"
In the morning the boy reached under his pillow and found a note.
It said, "Since this tooth is so special to you, you can keep this one," love the tooth Fairy.

She may be old,
but she ain't dumb!

You know what? That envelope on the door is actually GENIUS! I bet the tooth fairy would get her rear in gear a lot faster around here if she could just deposit the loot at the door and move along.

As a matter of fact, I may just suggest this method to my gang :)

Um, the tooth fairy here is so bad that the eldest child was now taken over the task. Cringe. She recently asked me if I needed her to be Santa too. Sigh.

From what I understand, that tooth fairy is one busy, busy, busy lady . . .

The tooth fairy is very forgetful. The last time she forgot here she made it up by sprinkling her beautiful but very messy and annoying to clean up fairy dust all over the 6 yr old her bed and her floor.Great idea.

How nice of her.Grrr she better never forget again!

that tooth fairy seems to have lost quite a few brain cells over the years...

but i do admire the creative approach with the envelope on the door. (which also saves the rooting around under a kid's pillow to find that silly tooth!!)

Bug actually just lost one of his molars, and when he started making noises about putting it under his pillow for the Tooth Fairy, I felt duty bound to remind him that as long as he no longer believed, he no longer got paid.

He looked at me, completely flabbergasted, and sputtered:

But... can we at least get ice cream???

Gotta love the tenacity! I LOVE how creative and enterprising your boys are!

The tooth fairy leaves dollars here, too. Or sometimes 4 quarters. And usually late. Now my youngest comes to me with a tooth and asks for a buck. Very sad.

Wow your tooth fairy is good. When I was a kid we only got a quarter!

I wan tto know who ever came up with the idea for the tooth fairy -- clearly this person did not have children!

Bubba is pretty sure that one of his teeth is finally loose. I concur, but Mr. Daddy thinks we're both crazy, but we're all counting down the days until TF arrives!

And you're right -- I bet a muumuu does make flying pretty difficult!

The tooth fairy is SUPER flakey at our house. A real fairy loser. Fairy guilt makes her cough up WAY more cash than I EVER got.

Sigh.

P.S. LOVE the note. Maybe one of those would help around here. Gracie currently has three loose teeth and I don't think we can afford the guilt money if I forget three days in a row for every one.

That is EXACTLY the same tooth fairy we have! There have been times when Mom has had to go in with the boy and fumble through the pillows until the money is found. You know, the money that the kid couldn't fine earlier. That's after she's already skipped at least one day. I'm telling you, if the fairy-woman is as old as me, she's tired and I have to cut her some slack.

The Tooth Fairy is one parental responsibility that I am SO not looking forward to! The days of teaching my kids about sex, drugs, and rock and roll actually seem appealing when compared to having to deal with lost teeth!

Our son swallowed his tooth once, so we drew a picture of his tooth and put it under his pillow.

And the Easter Bunny is aging right along with the tooth fairy...he can't hop around like he used to...bad knees, and all.

Oh, crap. I forgot we'd need the tooth fairy to visit eventually. That is going to require remembering things late at night, isn't it? And more lying about a make believe character that I will have to keep up with. Urg!

I love the idea of the envelope on the door. That will surely help the Tooth Fairy remember and make it easier for exchanges.

Growing up I had a friend who was TERRIFIED of the tooth fairy. They had to put his teeth outside the house so that the tooth fairy would have no reason to enter the house, that's how scared he was of her.

Debbie @ Three Weddings said...

She is most definitly forgetful here, also. But she only brings a dollar. We were walking home with Diva's friend the other day and the tooth fairy gave her a new outfit. We decided her friend has gold in her teeth and Diva just has plain teeth.
