Like when a child recognizes a McDonald's sign, can they actually read it, or does their mind put two and two together. Either way, I would say that he may not read it the same way that we do, but he clearly understands what the sign means.

In my humble opinion, of course.Roger Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01831602215904873587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7494202605629550918.post-29958614953673885172009-09-29T15:01:40.076-04:002009-09-29T15:01:40.076-04:00I can totally "hear" him now as I serve ...I can totally "hear" him now as I serve a lot of kids that do the same thing!!

And I have one student in particular that is TOTALLY non-verbal (except when he screams). G-tube fed, etc. etc. and he can totally read basic things. He blows our mind when we realize what he is capable of. I've even started removing pictures from his AAC device and just left him with words.CChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01537821831479150677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7494202605629550918.post-62962415184246044762009-09-29T00:53:58.217-04:002009-09-29T00:53:58.217-04:00I know two non-verbal children that can read so I ...I know two non-verbal children that can read so I think it is definitely possible.Kimberly Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00011334298854922476noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7494202605629550918.post-76485848810810353222009-09-28T21:29:26.903-04:002009-09-28T21:29:26.903-04:00That sounds like some word recognition to me!!That sounds like some word recognition to me!!Stephaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17218519474695662328noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7494202605629550918.post-22572750460742128852009-09-28T21:21:38.245-04:002009-09-28T21:21:38.245-04:00It's very possible that he sure was paying att...It's very possible that he sure was paying attention to those signs and then recognized it!Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02441176684416139172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7494202605629550918.post-85669827031755499782009-09-28T21:08:17.693-04:002009-09-28T21:08:17.693-04:00Oh that is so cool. I think Micah getting so excited over the sign is a combination of lots of things - the most exciting being that he will be a reader! Hmm, ...I'd settle for a silent ten minutes :-)

Hmm, he may not be able to read but he sure can recognize the words "corn maze" which is close enough! Didn't we see the word "dog" so many times and associate it with barking furry things? He's definitely a smart little guy.

I'll take those 17 minutes and raise you an hour... please.imbeingheldhostagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00771374087307254969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7494202605629550918.post-6056517493189939722009-09-28T02:44:13.622-04:002009-09-28T02:44:13.622-04:00Karen, I don't think I have any doubt that Mic...Karen, I don't think I have any doubt that Micah is quite clever. Did he see the signs at the church or at your house before they were put up maybe, so that he knew to associate them with the corn maze? Or do you think he was reading the words phonically?HalfAsstic.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08082110012779351659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7494202605629550918.post-25771281657554629872009-09-28T01:36:43.918-04:002009-09-28T01:36:43.918-04:00How freakin' awesome would that be???
