Me and The Luke Boy

You'll never guess what I did today! All by myself, with assistance from nobody, I figured out how to use the Google Reader.

I'm so proud of myself. (Patting self on back.)

You're proud of me, aren't you? (Big cheesy grin going on.)

Okay, you can stop laughing now.

I've mentioned before how I'm just not a techie. Obviously you didn't believe me. I'll bet you do now.

Yeh, I still hear your laughter. But I need help with some finer points. Is there an easy way to leave a comment without clicking onto the blog? Because I haven't found it yet if there is. And if it's fall-off-a-log easy please spell it out in preschool form for me anyway. I'm not a techie.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were sitting around the supper table the other night talking about how my hubbs' brother moves every few years in the Air Force. The kids were debating the pros and cons of this. Luke said:
I would hate to have to make new friends every time I move. When you're making friends you gotta be nice, share, remember your manners, I forget, I forget, I forget...
Yeh, because being nice to people is so hard. And what's with the I forgets? He forgets how to be nice? He forgets how else he should treat people? He forgets how to make friends?
The mind of Luke is a deep, dark pit. Do not go there.
That little Luke - what a cutie!! I forget sometimes too - oops, did I say that out loud?
I'm no help with the google reader - I don't use it (I'm living under even a bigger rock than you apparently). Let me know how much you like it - I'm still doing things the "old fashioned" way. See you Karen - have a good Friday - Kellan
WTG on figuring out google reader, I use Bloglines so I will be no help!!
I'm beginning to think a lot of kids minds are deep dark pits we shouldn't venture into. I sure know Hope's is.
Kellan - I'm finding it awesome, easy and it's making me feel even more stupid for not figuring it out earlier. No more checking blogs every hour of the day to see who updated! Woo-hoo!
I had to have someone else do my feeder...and I did mine only yesterday. Great non-techie minds think alike?! I can't wait to see the new shirt!
He's funny & cute.
I love Google Reader...except now I have so many feeds on it, that I feel overwhelmed signing in and seeing hundreds of new feeds to read!
You have to click on to the blog to leave a comment. The Reader just saves you from clicking on to the blog when there is nothing new to read.
I'm with you on the computer stuff, but I have been using Google Reader and it makes things much easier. You only need to click through if you want to see something like a slide show or leave a comment.
Mom of 3 Girls is doing a 4 part series on Feed Readers but in part 1 she does a lot of detailed information for us novices on how to use Google Reader. Check it out at http://www.momof3girls.net/?p=915 (sorry, you'll have to copy and paste that link). She's done parts 2 & 3 also and I recommend you read them as well. Especially if you've considered putting that little icon on your site. Good Luck and remember, You are Not Alone!
I've been thinking of doing a reader, too, but have felt a little intimidated. Maybe I'll give it a shot this weekend. I'm so proud of you for figuring it out!! :)
Ha! I am going to post a real basic how to for Google Reader this weekend. Peeps are mystified at how I keep up with blog-reading and THAT is the answer.
I forget to be nice, share, and remember my manners all the time, too. Who needs friends when you have bloggy friends?
Yes I am laughing just a little. Hey wait a minute... my sister Irene had to help me figure out how to do it too. Oh well, I'm not a techie too.
Ok first of all, I swear I read this like two weeks ago, but yet it was posted yesterday. And this isn't the first time I have had this whole deja vu feeling. Maybe I am dreaming what is going to be said at your house before its said. spooky huh?
I love my google reader, but it has made me more anti-social. It is so easy to read the blog posts, but then I forget to click on the blog to leave a comment. I am trying to make a concious effort to do that more often though. And when I signed up, when they had the tutorial I said I dont need it, then it took me a bit to figure it out. Dummy me, for x-ing out the tutorial.
Burgh - I'll read it gladly because like Jennifer, I x-ed out the tutorial and probably should have read it. Honestly, I don't think I'm having problems with anything, but ignorance is bliss. You know?
And Jennifer - I could totally see how one could become a lurker in a hurry with The Reader. I'll have to be vigilant about commenting.
That part about what Luke said about being nice is sooo funny.
I just learned about Google Reader. I don't know a faster way to comment, though. :-(
Luke is cute!
Share you new found knowledge. Ammon has been telling me to start using it. He usually makes me figure stuff out on my own!
Yeah, I need to get on that Google reader thingy. My blog reading has increased ten fold.
I am impressed with your computer abilities. I usually just ask my hubby to do stuff like that for me. Except today I actually figured out how to change teh header on my blog. I too am feeling very computer savvy today!!
Luke sounds like a very interesting kid to raise!
I was just planning to move to Google Reader this weekend! It seems like the thing to do.
Love that story about Luke! It made me lol!
Your not the only non-techi person. What's a Google reader?
I didn't know we were allowed to forget to be nice and share....thanks for the tip Luke! ;)
I think Luke's got it all figured out. ;)
And even though I had Justin set up the reader for me, since I have an UNCONTROLLABLE urge comment everywhere I go, I uh, stopped using the reader because I just go down my blogroll.
Spammon said...
If you have iGoogle as your home page, you can set it as a widget right there so you don't even have to go to google reader!
Karen said...
Colleen - I know the urge you speak of. I guess I'm outspoken. But this at least helps me know where to talk. haha
Spammon - I have my home page set at my store, because much as I like my bloggy friends I don't want to miss a sale. My customers would not be happy if I didn't get their things mailed.
I love Luke's deep dark pit of a mind!! He's brilliant, and frankly, honest. I'm on my best behavior at first too and then at some point I forget forget forget too...I think he just understands the human condition better than the rest of us.
I love Luke's deep dark pit of a mind too! Maybe because he's not alone... I know it can be scary to go in very deep though. Can I say I didn't even know what a google reader was before reading all the comments?? Now I've gotta learn something new again...
