It's been one of those days. Whew. I just want to crash and die.
Oh, wait. I did that a few hours back.
Micah had a doctor's appointment in Pittsburgh, and we had errands to run as well. We were ALL DAY in the Burgh. Although Micah was so well behaved at the doctor's office that I wondered if he was even my child. And we waited for an hour and a half. (Although I noticed that they still did not hang the picture that he knocked off the wall the last time we visited. The hangers are there, but no picture.)
It was determined that his ear tubes are indeed out. You know, the ones that were placed in his tiny drums last August. We got a whopping 5 months out of those suckers. (His pediatrician determined they were out back in January.) I mentioned that he's been scaring us with sleep apnea since about Christmas and that maybe his tonsils could be the culprit. And if so, we'd love to have them removed when the tubes are replaced. But the doctor needed some super scientific evidence that the tonsils are indeed to blame (or that it's really sleep apnea and not a crazed parent making things up), so she put him on a 3 week course of antibiotics to reduce the swelling due to the severe cold that he has and then asked us to video record a segment of him sleeping at his worst. That should be fun. I'm wondering if his insurance will cover said video equipment, because I'm pretty sure our camcorder died a few kids ago.
Anyhoo... We came home exhausted from the trip, from all-day toddler wrestling, and the dratted time change (I know I swore that I love it. Just hush up!). I proposed that we run into town for pizza. We needed antibiotics anyway, and Josh needed soccer shoes. We're the ones that wait until the night before soccer practice and rush to Wal-Mart only to curse them for being sold out. The kids go to practice in sneakers while I run an hour to the next town praying that they have anything other than pink in my boy's size. This year? We totally were on the ball. We scored black shoes in our hometown.
So that's our boring, boring day and we just got in and I'm dead tired. Tomorrow doesn't look like it'll offer much reprieve. I've gotta make 3 batches of brownies for my daughter, drop them off at the school, take a dog to the groomer, hit the gym and take Micah to speech therapy all before noon.
If it weren't for this time change I'd so be on top of things. But I'm sadly sobbing at the bottom of it all. I think I'm beginning to feel my advanced age.

I'm with you on the time change. I am adjusting to it much worse then my kids. I try to go to bed and just lay there....then I can't get up in the morning. I hate the time change- it sucks big old stinky poo diapers.
Okay, enough complaining. you were super productive today and looking like you will out do that tomorrow! I'm tired just thinking of all you will do.
I am sitting here wondering how antibiotics relieve swelling. Did the doctor determine there was an infection on the tonsils?
Just what you need to do - film your kid sleeping...have fun!
Heck, I'm beginning to think I'm feeling your age after reading all that. Get some rest..
That's a pretty crazy schedule for anyone of any age - don't be so hard on yourself!
I'm tired just reading all you've done! But, I agree the time change is NOOOO fun!
You had to wait half an hour at the doctors office? Not cool!
No, Becky. It was an hour AND a half. Mental note: don't make appointments late in the day at the specialist's office.
I am not so sure I would want to get up in the middle of the night to film my kid sleeping! Like you don't have anything else to do at 2 am? But I do hope Micha gets better!
I hate having to get used to the time change! I am wishing I could go back to bed. I will have a nap today!!!
Why can't doctors just take Mommy's word for it? Most of us know what we're doing. AND we know our kid better than anybody. and I'm with Suburban Correspondent -- what do antibiotics have to do with anything?
Try to get some rest! You'll catch up with the time change before long....I say as I yawn for the thousandth time this morning!
I told you the time change sucked.
That doctor? Sucks, too. There's no harm in taking out his tonsils, so they should just do it to appease you. If they have to knock the little guy out for tubes, they should do all the preventative maintenance they can.
How the heck do you video tape a kid sleeping anyway? Surely they gave you detailed instructions?
How about buying ready-made brownies and either walking to the groomers for exercise or just putting the gym on hold until later? That's a lot on your plate!
whoa hold up...you made him wear pink shoes last year? :(
Spammon - no we didn't! Hence the driving an hour to score something less embarrasing.
The antibiotics are baffling. They're to reduce swelling due to the cold/flu he has going on but I think 3 weeks worth is excessive. His tonsils are extremely huge to begin with and they won't shrink down to normal with meds. I think we may quit at 10 days. I'm that kind of mom.
Maria - I'd love to walk the dog to the groomers but a sad fact of living in the country is that nothing is close. Five miles in the cold is a big too much. But good news! (sarcastically speaking) Micah is too sick for school today, so the gym and speech are out. Turns out half my schedule is just gone.
Yikes! You are crazy busy! But I'm pretty impressed with all you did. Good luck getting the rest done!
Whooo..sounds like you had a crazy, crazy day! Hang in there..life is a crazy ride most days it seems! That's what makes it fun? Maybe?
Karen, find a new doctor. My hunny just went through a sleep study, which has to be approved by the doctor to get one, and they found apnea. I'm talking to our doc on Friday about my boy and his tonsils, because he also stops breathing. For me, I have the hunny and his history, and I had tonsils out at 5, meaning my ongoing cold/flu stopped and I've been relatively healthy since. So a little research before heading to the doc.
Sports Mama sent me this the other day. I printed it out and am taking it to the doctor, along with the anecdotal record of my own tonsils. Don't stop when you believe it's right.

Why can't the doctor just believe you!? You have an advanced mommy degree what with 4 children and all. You probably know MORE than the doctor!
Wish I could lend you a camcorder. I did that once for the doctor with Carino, then the battery died at the office and he couldn't see it. Grrr! The time change thing has me all screwed up. I'm awake all night and sleepy all day.
three weeks? even 10 days...hope you've stocked up on the yogurt to keep the yucky poopies at bay!
Karen, I've felt that way all week!!
Advanced age, BA!
