Weekend Flashback

This was one of my earlier posts, revived. If you prefer to read fresh material, come back tomorrow. My mind is on haitus tonight.

THE SMELL
originally published 8/07)

Our house smells. It always seems to, but I'm phobic about it. I think the dog is the problem. I cleaned the kennel and bathed her today and it helped a lot. But I can still smell it.

I'm always smelling something. Usually it's the bathrooms. With boys it's a take or a give if they hit the toilet. I would disinfect the floor around the toilet daily, wipe the walls behind the toilet, scrub the shower curtain (you never know) and wash the rug. And it would still smell. I gave up. I cleaned, then broke out a new air freshener hoping that guests wouldn't notice.

One day I walked by the bathroom as the then-three-year-old Luke was going potty, door wide open. He was aiming at the ceiling! (Nearly hit it, too.) That explained a lot. We now knew what he meant when he'd come out of the bathroom declaring that he did another "High-Pee". And I now knew why all the disinfectant in the world around the toilet base didn't take care of the smell. Who would have thought to scrub the ceiling?

So I've learned to become creative with my cleaning. Start high and work low. Eventually I'll find it.

No he dint, he would get a swat on that little hiney. I can't take that type of creativity it's my death.

Wow. Just wow. Where exactly would he learn this neat trick?

And if it makes you feel any better, I had the same issue the other day swearing the house smelled like stinky feet. I later discovered that this happened when I was gone over the dinner hour and my husband made "nachos" -- apparently cooked corn chips smell like stinky feet. Who'da thunk it?

Holy CRAP! High pee...I guarantee that 99.9% of potty trained little boys have tried this at some point or another. And now we have a name for it!!! That is hilarious!

And as for smells, I am the same way about them. I DO NOT want to be the stinky house!!!

That is hilarious (from a distance it's hilarious). I thought this was going to be the post where you did the quick dusting with someone's underpants. Got me laughing about it all over again.

I hope Luke didn't teach Gavin about the High Pee, though now I'm going to be checking the bathroom ceilings because we do seem to have a slightly lingering odor in two of them.

What worked for us was making our boys clean the bathroom. SCRUB the toilet and surrounding floor. Every single time there's a hint of a pee smell. Stopped their pee play.

OMG!!! That's too funny!

Our house always seems to smell... like cat pee... somewhere... It's a weekly event, searching for the place the cat peed this week. Luckily, it's usually in the basement somewhere. Which means I rarely go into the basement.
