The Color of a Voice

Prentke-Romich sent us another Springboard Lite so that we can return Ken's to him. Micah is quite fascinated with the dual devices. It's like talking in stereo.

He debated long and hard which color he wanted his voice to be.

He chose orange.

You know how I know? He found the page with our family members on, and pressed MICAH. He gave me the black one, found the family page, and pressed MOM.

It still brings a tear to my eye to hear my boy talk to me.

There are no words to tell you how big the smile on my face is right now! Bless his beautiful little heart!

You know what? You were right. For the year that I've "known" you, you've said that you were positive Micah could say more than he was verbalizing. You. were. right.

THIS is your opportunity!!! Use it! Both of you use one. Practice together. Have conversations together. Use your devices and model, model, model. You won't have 2 devices for long so use this unique chance while you can!

Wow! That's all I can say. I'm not surprised by this, and yet I am just a little. Like Peanut, I know he knew what was going on, but to actually see it happening... I just can't imagine how this makes you feel. Well, a little, but I'm still waiting for my miracle. I'm praying PECS will be it for us.

Hey, it's so cool that I just found the section on the PRC website about your Mikah ONE day after he received his long awaited Vantage Lite! I guess my Mikah's a bit younger than your Micah since mine just turned 5 in December, but otherwise they sound SO much alike, and not just their ages and having Ds either. (Any weird typos are because he's sleeping against my chest as I try to type this :). )

I first heard about PRC from a post on UnoMas.com last March, and we were able to have a representative meet with us, the SLP, Mikah's Case Manager, and her student-follower later in the Spring. He started making jokes on the thing within five minutes... We offered him choices of crackers, juice or a game. You know, like -I-want-food-cracker. He went for "I want coffee" and such with a huge grin on his face! He got a short trial run, but only at the therapist's office due to their new policy on loaners, in June. Since I picked it up yesterday afternoon he's spent a lot of time just playing with it (the representative said this was usually the best way for kids to learn to use it after a brief introduction), and has used it to pick french toast for breakfast this morning, even though I didn't point out that as a choice from the list. I've done a bit of customizing, but have run into some issues that I hope to work out when I call PRC on Monday. I agree that everyone that I've talked to from there has been wonderful. Best of luck to your Micah from me and my Mikah!
