Becky came to me tonight and said, "do you promise not to say NO until I've told you the whole story?"
There is a sentence that will make a mother want to buy a deadbolt for the outside of a bedroom door. So while I'm trying to be more cool and less freaked out, she continues.
"Kayla, Miranda, Jenna, ..."
NO! I said with a smile. (It's best to break the tension building up in your chest by lightening the mood on occasion.)
She grinned. "Mom! Okay, fine! I hate you!," she laughed.
I laughed, too. Sorry. Go on.
"So Kayla, Miranda, Jenna, and a bunch of my other friends..."
NO!
"Mom, stop. Let me finish."
Okay, I promise to be good.
"They all have My Space accounts and want me to have one, too."
Tell them to join you on Facebook.
"I did. They said it's too confusing. And it is. They're all on My Space and talk all the time there. They want me to join them. Would you consider letting me have a My Space account again?"
How did we get so lucky in the teenage girl department? If asking for a My Space account is such a big undertaking, I'm assured that Big Things are still on the far horizon.
And, really, I'm good with that.

You've got a great teenage girl. :)
you GO, mom. i like it that way too.
and by the way, roo does NOT have a my space account and i will not let her have one.
facebook only -- and only as long as i am one of her friends. i see everything she does and everywhere she goes that way.
my space? not so much.
You are such a good mom!
I hope that my daughter 1. feels comfortable to come to me like Becky cmes to you and 2. thinks a My Space page is a big deal too! Then I will no the BIG stuff isn't on her list just yet.....maybe I will get lucky too.....
Oh- I'm curious.....did you let her get a My Space page? (I'm so lame- I don't even really know much about My Space)
Well, it's either that or she's so sneaky that she fakes that the little stuff is big stuff and has you snowed about all the big stuff she does under your nose ;)
btw did I mention that I loved the holiday look you put you awhile ago? Sorry!
oh man, the things I have to look forward to....
The fact that she knows and feels okay even ASKING you about it says volumes about your Great Mommy Abilities! Good job on raising her!!!
PS- Facebook is confusing?? I find MySpace confusing with all the seizure-inducing backgrounds people choose to put on their pages, heh. Gets me quite disoriented!!
Whew, I was worried there!
You crack me up!! NO!! It's good you can joke around with her. :)
Awhh, myspace...and when I was growing up I had to call my friends to talk to them. On a land line phone!! AHHHH!!
I get to watch my cousin with her teen daughter. It's like a reality tv show and she's a good kid.
Jock's got a MySpace. Everything is routed through MY email, so I see everything he does and everyone he talks to. I have to have the current password at all times, and the first time I can't log in, he loses the priviledge. I've got the entire thing securitied (it's a word if I say it is!) up the wazoo, and I have to approve all his new friend requests.
FYI... I'd approve Becky. ;) I'm jus' sayin'....
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Kimmy
I am just glad that she was only asking about MySpace!
She is a good kiddo!
She's a keeper! You've done well with her. :-)
This reminded me of a story from my past. When I was about 19 and home from college one summer, I sat my parents down to talk to them about something. Apparently the tone I used and saying I needed to talk to them and sitting them down freaked them out. I saw their faces and immediately realized what they thought. I quickly said, "I'm not pregnant or anything! I just got a belly ring!" They were so relieved that I wasn't pregnant that they didn't even get that upset about the belly ring!
You, Momma, have done a fantastic job of raising that one (the others have turned out pretty darn good so far, as well!) I am so proud of her for coming to you to ask and for not going behind your back and just doing it to keep up with her friends.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
LOL! I love the way you keep an open mind!!
MySpace...that's a simple one. At least she didn't ask you to get her an appointment to get on the pill...oh, no she didn't! ;O
Okay Melissa's comment is too funny! "Oh, no she didn't!" Still laughing over here :)
I am so glad I am starting with a teenage boy before I have a teenage girl!
Here's the greatest childproofing product I have found to keep the little ones safe and sound while inside...the product is called The Lock Jaw. Their site is www.lockjawsecurity.com
He he. just get my space too so you can check up on her.
Although I wouldn't want to take away from Becca, I'd say a lot of the credit goes to mom and dad.
I need to take some lessons from you, and soon.
She is a great girl, any girl that can sit in a room full of ole ladies (and I say that in the from a teenage girl perspective that is...) and not only NOT pout, but be wonderfully friendly and sweet - she has my vote for teenager of the YEAR!
Kudos MOM!
