I am turning into my mother. It's a scary, scary thought. I bought myself a pair of gloves and a pair of slippers while shopping with Sam, and then remembered that Becky needed to get me some gifts yet. (She said.) So I asked Sam to give them to Becky and tell her that he picked them. I was to pretend that I knew nothing of them, and all would be well. (This is SO something that my mother would do. And it drives me insane.)
Becky apparently decided that she either thought the slippers were too fug for her mother to wear, or so hip and cool that she wanted them for herself. She came downstairs tonight wearing them.
What on earth am I going to do to get those slippers back?
So I asked if she got those at the gift exchange at school last week.
She grinned slyly, and said "no."
Oh. Where did you get them then? They're new, aren't they?
Dad got them for me.
Well if you were shopping with Dad why didn't you get my gifts then? (I took her shopping today because she needed to get me a gift.)
I wasn't shopping with Dad.
So Dad just bought you slippers?
No. You'll figure it out.
What?! What does that mean?
Just watch the movie, okay?
Great. Now what do I do? Just demand that they're mine, admit that I tried sneaking one by her, and rip them off her feet? Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.
I want those slippers, darn it. Next time I'll just buy myself gifts and keep them.

Oh Karen- you crack me up! I love the crazy that is your life. Of course, I'm sitting here in Elmo slippers so really can't talk!
too freaking funny! if you come clean to her... perhaps she'll just give them to you because she won't want to like something her mother likes... ha ha... maybe.
Ack! Well that one sure backfired, huh?
I got the stocking in the mail today...thanks, I love it. I have a post up you need to read...then tomorrow I will talk about my stocking tree.
If you have time, stop by!
Go buy another pair and wear them happily. BAWAHAHA!
Patience, maybe she just wanted to know if you liked them, or maybe they're playing a trick on you for turning into your mother. If you don't get them for Christmas, go out and buy another pair for yourself and DONT SAY ANYTHING! :)
Maybe he had already gotten you a pair just like them. Or he's trying to drive you crazy. :)
I loathe slippers unless they're the awesomely tacky furry animal variety. You know - the ones that look like giant bear paws? Hawt.
I say you ignore the theft and get some hawter slippers.
does she have something up her sleeve? it all sounds kinda fishy...
Karen,
Warmest wishes for a Blessed Christmas.
Buon Natale,
Bia

I'm betting Sam and Becky are in cohoots, and you are so totally screwed. Time will tell, but -oh- you are in for it! That's what you get for trying to be sneaky.
that stinking sam...and that smart little becky! darn those smarties!!! i think you should get the slippers TODAY and wear them in the morning.
ok, or just smile and wave!
merry christmas to you and the clan.
I can't wait to hear what she has planned! There is some fun in having a teenage daughter. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
Kids will do it to you every time!
Merry Christmas!
I bet she wraps them and goves them too you in teh morning :) Nothing says I love you like used slippers!
Ugh ... kids ruin the fun of Christmas gift giving to yourself all of the time.
Just kidding - I wouldn't have it any other way. She is a wonderful girl that is going to keep you on your toes for the rest of your life - there is no fooling or tricking bright beautiful girlys.
Merry Christmas to you all!

Bwhahaha! Loving this story. Definitely buy another pair and then insist that you wear them together. To match. Cuz that's what the cool mom/daughter pairs do!!! :)
Love that you used "fug" in your blog!
That cracks me up. I've actually decided this year (and not in a bitter way) that I only want gifts if people are truly inspired. If someone can't think of a gift for me, that's fine and truly no hard feelings. But I'm tired of not buying a kitchen scale for five months and hoping that someone buys me one I like. I'd prefer to have my scale! :)
Did you get Sam into it and have him call her on the slippers?
Stinking kids! I am sooo angry with my 17 year old about a very expensive gift she got a friend of hers that I want to kill her. And it wasn't even her best friend!
So...what happened? Did you get the slippers fo shniz? (I don't know what that means, I'm just in a Snoop mood.)
My father in law would have just wrapped them and put them under the tree, addressed to him from Santa.
