The Soap Opera

We've got this handy little feature on our kitchen sink that dispenses soap. The things they don't come up with. I know, I know. It doesn't take much to entertain me. So last evening as I was doing dishes I realized that it needed a refill. I'm chatting with my husband who's sitting at the counter watching my every move. (But not helping.) So I got the liquid hand soap out from under the sink and poured half a bottle into the reservoir. Put the pump back in and we're good to go. Prime it a little. Prime it some more. Keep priming. Holy cow, that's quite a tank. I emptied the bottle of soap into it and started again. Prime, prime, pump, pump, PUMP, PUMP.

At this point my husband says "I think something is wrong." Yeh, I kinda got that myself. But it does take a while to warm up once it's empty. "Well not that long!" So of course, being the man, he jumped right in to fix it. It didn't take a genius to figure out what happened. In fact, I feel confident that I could have detected the fact that the bottle had come unscrewed and was laying on it's side under the sink. Covered with a whole bottle of soap. And being slippery, the soap ran everywhere. My husband was a trooper and used some towels to wipe up the bulk of it, and it was my job to rinse out the towels. Wowser. They just kept rinsing. It's too bad I'd just finished up the dishes because I could have washed for a week in the suds I was getting. At one point I just decided that my washer could take care of it from there.

I know for a fact that we didn't get a whole bottle of soap out from under the sink. I know for a fact that it dripped down little tiny holes and cracks and is laying on our floor under the cabinet unit and is slowly seeping through to the basement where it will drip in little sudsy bubbles for years to come. I know this because I dreamed about it last night.

I love those soap dispenser thingies! I've happened to have them in the past 3 places I've lived. They've all been top loaders though. The current house we are in has one, but it's broken, the long tube part isn't as long as it used to be, so now I have to keep it full all the time. This means I fill the tank about once a week. It's a bummer but at least I have one!

Thank you so much for the kind words! Keep checking back, I think it's time for another give-away from the store. I haven't done one in a while and I love giving things out.

Heh. This is actually kind of funny. Although I can sympathize with your anxiety about the soap dripping for years to come, I would take comfort in the fact that there are MUCH worse things you could have spilled down there besides soap. I would list them, but the list would go on nearly forever. Soap is one of those things that, thankfully, is already "clean."
