Takin' Care of Bizness

The Good Flea, Christina at My 5 Little Monkeys and KidzMama at Not A Spare Minute gave me the Excellent Blogger award. I'm so honored! Thanks, guys. I had no idea so many thought I was excellent. I'm tearing up.

And I guess I get to pass this Excellent Award on to other wonderful reads.

Aimee at The Mother Load has a great blog. She's a bit preoccupied right now with the Bun in the Oven, who's not cooperating with the whole birth and delivery thing very well.

The Mom Bomb is always a fun and entertaining read. I love seeing what she has to say next.

Driving With The Brakes On is another excellent blog, and she just announced her pregnancy. This makes me happy for her and for me, too. I'm not pregnant.

Now, some outright nosiness on my part. But I'd appreciate if you'd humor me on this one. My husband, like every other man in the entire world, is so sure that he's deprived. I keep telling him that he's got it good for a man who's been married 15 years and has 4 children, but he scoffs. See that little poll in the top right corner of my blog? Go vote. Divulge your bedroom secrets, my peeps! And the great thing is that you can confess that you romp under the covers nightly, or that you haven't had a rendezvous in years, and nobody will know who's voting what. We'll just see total percentages, and then we can all tell our husbands where they stand in the overall who's-getting-what. Or not tell him, depending on where you fall.

Our church holds a little rodeo event for the kids once a year, and this being January, it was rodeo time! Being lifeless like we are, the kids get all excited about this and have even caught my husband up in the festivities. He bought himself a cowboy hat and boots just to wear once a year. (He got the boots off ebay from someone who "just bought them to wear once at a funeral, they're brand new otherwise." No kidding.) I've saved all my gear from the glory days of showing horses because I had no idea if I'd ever want it again. Turns out I just don't have a desire to wear a cowboy hat to Wal-Mart on a regular basis. I kept the two that I had, though, and wear one of them to the rodeo. I loan the other one to one of the kids. This year none of the kids could wear the extra one. My head is smaller than my children's heads. Well, the 10 and 12 year olds' heads at least. The hat fit the 7 year old. I must have a thin skull because we all know it's all brain up there. NOT.

I started my gym membership this week. I knew I was out of shape, but it's worse than I thought. UGH. My personal trainer kept asking if the weights selected were good or needed adjusting. They were all fine until I got to the crunches. I seriously needed the weight adjusted on those, but sadly it's just my heft I'm having a hard time moving about. I've had one day of workout so far and dread going back. Don't get me wrong - I really do enjoy exercising, but after an intense first day I know my body will be screaming at me to just stop it already upon my return. But I'm here to tell you, friends, that this baby weight is coming off. The baby will be 5 soon and I've no excuses any longer.

Knocking on wood here, but we haven't had a new illness strike our family in over a week. And? The pneumonia turned out to be a good thing with Micah. The Boy Who Wouldn't Take Medicine is now the best kid to dose EVER. Simply syringe it into his mouth (that he opens like a little birdie) and he swallows. No fighting, no fussing, no tears or struggles. It's truly a miracle. I've no idea what clicked in his little mind, but when that click happens with potty training I'll be set.

I think we've passed on the medical crises to my brother. This boy is an extremist. He climbs and skiis and bikes for a living. He's lost a few friends in avalanches, rock slides and the like. It's only by the grace of God that he's still alive. Seriously. My brother broke his foot last fall preparing for a bike race. He got to keep his foot (one doc talked of amputation) but ended up with 12 pins in his heel. I wasn't aware that one heel could hold that many pins, but I saw the x-rays and counted them myself. Just about time he got the cast off, he went sledding. He broke both legs at the same time and is currently casted to his knees.

I had something else that was ever so pressing to share with you. But since I've just put myself to sleep I cannot remember it. Before you nod off from today's boring drivel, please go vote. I seriously need to let my husband know that I'm right and he's not.

You are soooo right!

Handsome little cowboys you have! And I am so jealous you have the motivation to workout. I need some of that.

Great pictures. Micah is so cute. My husband jokes that a guy will give up sleep for it, so he doesn't understand the I'm too damn tired excuse. Course, he's sick tonight, so I'm blogging (and too damn tired) Hee hee :)

Is there ever any other option than for you to be right? Didn't think so. :)

And can I just tell you that I love it that I'm listed as one of your "faithful" bloggy friends? :)

Ohmommy - while I love that you think my cowboys are all that, are you agreeing that my post today is snooze-worthy?! ;)

It pays to keep your husband happy!

Congrats on the award!

Glad to hear Micah (I love that name) is feeling better. My daughter is home sick from school today. She's been throwing up since yesterday. I can't wait for spring to get here so I can open up my windows and get rid of all these germs!

Hubbys....aren't they fun!??? Sometimes I wonder if they are worth the bother. Just kidding of course.

Congrats on your award!

You are excellent!! I love reading your blog!

And this year I will be married for 5 years and after ya know I always say, "Will that tie ya over for another month?" Mine feels deprived too!! LOL!!

That rodeo looks fun! I too have saved my show clothes, that I could not fit into now even if I tried, but still I save them......

Your poll is not going the way I want it, too. Initially, I was all "Ha! I will have proof! He can't argue with Karen's poll!" Dang it if somebody isn't putting out way too much.

You've already spent more time in a gym this year than I will. That should count for something, right? Really, I'm in awe of your dedication. I'm already trying to think of excuses why we can't go bike riding once the weather improves, and I actually enjoy that.

Yay! for Micah finally starting to take medicine! I was feeling you on the whole issue because a certain somebody used to fight me with all her might. Same thing happened though, one day something clicked and the fighting was over. Every time you think you have a kid figured out . . .

One last thing, OF COURSE YOU ARE RIGHT! How dare your husband imply otherwise?

First, super cute pics. I love the idea of a rodeo!

Second, I have a problem with the options in your poll. Because it all depends on which week it is. If I'm ovulating, I'm a total horn dog and will do it 4 or 5 times that week. And even if we don't do it the rest of the month, that week skews the average. Hmmm, this probably explains why I didn't want sex during the whole pregnancy and first few months after her birth. I wasn't ovulated. (Is that more than you wanted to know about me? I just can't stop sharing TMI!)

I'm glad you all aren't sick anymore. And your poor brother! I hope he heals well.

Your brother? The extremist? Is apparently not very good at it. And I'm saying that in the funniest way possible because after reading it, it seems kinda mean. :)

Congrats on the award!

Love the cowboy shots!

You're not going to like my answer when I take the poll. Now that the kids are a little older and I'm not always so worn out, I'm enjoying the play more. My husband's adorable. :)
And dangit if I didn't give you the same award, but posted it too late!

Karen said...

Aww, Flea, thanks! I'll list your name right up there, too. Right this minute.

Burgh - I'm ever so glad that apparently my peeps are happily married, but you're right. The poll is not going the way I wanted it to.

Our rodeo is going on right now here in SA - your boys would fit right in!! Those pictures are adorable. Congrats on the award - you are most "Excellent" and totally deserve this great award. Have a good day Karen - see ya. Kellan

i love your cow pokes! can't wait to see the results so i too can share with my poor deprived hubby!

You are excellent three times over! Wow.

Also, thanks for putting me on your faithful list. I just don't know how you keep up with everyone.

So glad Micah is doing better and no new illnesses have been discovered.

I like the poll, but I think your hubby might be right. Even with our four kiddos it's an important part of our marriage. When the day is done it's good to know my best friend is happy by my side.

just stopping by via melissa at hope for the hopless. i will come back i think i like it here! :)

you have a beautiful family.

good luck on that gym thing. shudder

Flea said...

Okay, I read Hallie's post at her blog, so I know what she's talking about, but she's commenting on your blog post where you mention your bedroom poll. Hmph. And the bedroom poll, BTW, should have included the question of more than twice a week. I'm just sayin'.

Burgh Baby said...

I think Flea is on to something--the choices may need some slightly different wording. Maybe something like this:

1-2 per month
3-4 per month
5 or more per month

Cause, you know, that cluster phenomenom caramama talked about is pretty common.

In short, YOU'RE not wrong, the phrasing of the choices lends to skewed results. (That's got to be it.)

Oh man, where to start? I suppose at the top...

ConGratUlatioNs~ I have to agree, you are most Excellent! I will have to spend a bit of time and check out some of the bloggers you mentioned.
Ok and your poll~ this cracks me up! I can just imagine the conversation with your Hubby and saying "Oh yeah, well I'll ask my blogger friends..." :)
I can honestly say that I have never been to a rodeo, well a real one anyways. My sisters went to "horse camp" and would perform what they had learned that week in a "rodeo" yeah they circled barrels very VERY slowly. I love the hats on your children though, it's good to get in the spirit of it all!
What's a gym? j/k Congrats to you on tackling that first day, I need to motivate myself for that first day. Ugh.
Good to hear nobody new is sick over their and the troublemaker medicine taker has seen the light!
Ok~ what's up with your brother? You would think 12 pins would slow him down a bit~ surely the casts will...maybe!
Ok, you were packed full of info this time...gotta go vote.

Karen said...

Hallie - I have to agree with Flea. It doesn't sound good, what Katie did on live TV.

Yikes, it's not looking like I'm going to like how this poll is coming out. Karen our husbands must be distant relatives...

Congrats on the award- and your poll, too funny! Thanks for sharing the pictures!

I LOVE the picture of your two cowboys. Seriously.

I cannot comment on your poll because I am a crappy wife lately. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Oh, and I SOOOO agree. You are most excellent!!!!!

Wineplz said...

I'm way behind, as usual, and missed the poll. Hubby thinks he is ridiculously deprived (and well, immediately following the birth of a large baby, you can guess what my answers were to his requests...). But to hear that we're "about average" is nice and vaguely comforting...in that I'm not some awful person "depriving" him, and that he's no more annoying than most other husbands. I keep telling him if he helped out more around the house I wouldn't be so tired... ;)

And I agree...you are EXCELLENT! :) Even though I"m a bum and don't always get here as regularly as I'd like, I still enjoy reading you!
