Maybe I'm Not As Weird As All That

Keri at Stripey Cat Productions has tagged me. I guess that makes me IT. What exactly IT is I'm not sure, but I need to list 6 randomy-weird things about myself. Trust me, this list could go on. But I'm told by the blogging gods-that-be that I must stop at the magic number or I may have to wear a bra around the house for a day as punishment.

So here are some incredibly randomy-weird facts about myself, ranging from "who knew" to "I didn't need to know."

1. Iced tea makes me pee. A lot. As in are-you-sure-you're-not-pregnant-because-you're-in-the-bathroom-every-15-minutes kind of have to pee. I can drink hot tea made with the same tea bags and it does not have the same effect. And I drink decaf so it's not the caffeine. I know this because my coffee isn't always decaf and I never have the uncontrollable bladder going on with that. Yep, Weird.

2. I won't drink water from any tap but the kitchen sink. Bathroom water is unthinkably icky and laundry room is just plain nasty. (Not that I've ever tried them or anything. My husband says it's mental. Or maybe he meant that I'm mental.)

3. I dyed my hair once when I was 20. I wanted strawberry blonde so left the red dye in for a quarter of the time specified. It's a good thing too, because the dye reacted with a perm that I'd had months before and tinted my hair blueish-green. You couldn't really tell unless I wore these colors, but sadly that's what my wardrobe consisted of mostly. The professional hair dressers all agreed that the type of dye used prevented them from stripping it out. One of two things would happen. 1.) It would brighten and enhance the blueish-green. 2.) It would take here and there, leaving me with a striped blueish-green look. It was nearly a year before all traces were gone. Right around my wedding, actually.

4. I'm a little wee bit stubborn. No, this is not weird, but I'm pretty sure the extremes that I take things to are not exactly normal. Example: To this day I have never made ham pot pie, and as far as I'm concerned I will go to my grave only eating someone else's. I have tried and failed too many of my MIL's recipes, and my hubbs is so quick to point this out each and every time that I make either potato salad or vegetable soup (these are her trademarks, and they're awesome). And not only does he point out that mine are woefully inadequate, but he's taught the kids to loudly and publicly proclaim this as well. Despite his offers to help me make pot pie, and his promises to never, ever say one word about mine in comparison, I will never make it. Do you hear me?! NEVER!!!

5. I do things clockwise. I cannot function "backwards." Especially when I'm sewing, I have to work around something in a clockwise rotation or my OCD kicks in and I become spazzy and non-functional.

6. I do not like fruit. I'll eat apples, pineapple and most berries, but that's the extent of it. No pears, peaches, cantaloupe, watermelon and especially not bananas. I cannot stand the sight of a peeled banana, the smell has made me nauseous already, and if one of those little stringy thingies touch me I will freak out. I do not touch peeled bananas if I can help it. And yet, strangely, I LOVE banana flavored popsicles and banana bread is one of my all-time favorites. Don't even ask, I can't explain it.

7. I am not that into ice cream. Some incredibly good Breyers with tons of chocolate in it is a treat on occasion, but I can take it or leave it. My hips are appreciative. Now if only I could convince myself that chocolate is also optional. And speaking of chocolate, white chocolate is not chocolate. Argue all you want, it does not contain cocoa, which is what real chocolate is. It's nasty and waxy-tasting and I will not eat it. I do not care if you color it pink or blue or yellow or green, it's still nasty. Give it to someone else.

Okay, being mathmatical (does that count as another weird thing?) I realize that I've posted 7 items instead of 6. Great. I've just pushed the bloggy gods and not only will I have to wear a bra around for a day under my pajamas (what, you think I'd get dressed just because I'm supported?) my underwires will probably push their way out and poke me in the boob. But it's a chance I was willing to risk. I've been looking for an excuse to buy new bras anyway.

Okay, since I've pushed the envelope on the limits thing, I have to mention this freaky thing. Keri listed this as one of her weird things. I nearly died. I did this for years and years and really had no idea that someone else was as weird as I was. I mean, I lived to ride, and cross-country courses seriously rock. And if I was forced to be in a vehicle at least I could imagine I was riding.

On long car trips , i imagine myself riding a horse on the shoulder of the road we are driving on. Now i don't just mean weeeee... there i go, i mean full on imaginative horse... how i would avoid each obstacle that comes into my 'horse's path'... what the horse would do at each stoplight... I have done this since i was little to pass the time. yes a little insane to still do it at 35... but old 'habits' (cute pun..) are hard to break.

Seriously, is that not the freakiest thing in the world? That two of us are this incredibly weird? (No offense, Keri, but you have to know what I mean.) It's like finding out that you're not the only one who had a 3'2" tall imaginary friend named Pete with green hair and purple eyes. Or something like that.

I've gotta tag someone on this. I'm not sure how many someones, but we all know that I'm not very good at following rules so it wouldn't matter anyway. I'm going with Johnina at Bottles, Barbies and Boys, Kidzmama at Not A Spare Minute, and Kimmy at Tales of a Blender Kimmy.

For all you others who tagged me for things, I've got them hanging out in my drafts. Never fear, I'll get around to them. Some take more time than others.

Thanks for the tag - I love doing these things. I will get to it tomorrow!

I have to say though, that I LOVE ice cream. I'm pretty sure the FDA has made it a food group for us addicts!

Hmmm. I love ice cream. I eat fruit and I've NEVER done the horse thing. Horsies actually scare me. There's a random thing. Thanks for an interesting read!

I only like the water from the fridge, but I'll settle for the kitchen sink. Not the bathroom though and it grosses me out when people take their drinks into the public bathroom. Yuck.

Loved the rest of your list!!

I get all freaky about bridges. I always wonder what the stress limit is - how many cars can pass over before it collapses and if mine is that "one more" that does it.

I just love hearing these strange things about people - you are a bit strange - you know that, right? Someone told me on my post today (it was Toni) that I am "the mom that is not quite right" - I think that must be why I like you - we are two OCD, crazy, makin' mistakes, laughing about crap, writing it all down - weirdo moms!! This was a great list - the horse thing was a bit odd, but very interesting. I sometimes type the words that I am saying - my fingers start moving just like I'm sitting at a keyboard - we all have our oddities. Have a good Valentine's Day - see ya. Kellan

I think Punkin has your banana string problem, though she will eat bananas. She just freaks out over the strings.

And I'm with you on the ice cream thing. People always think I'm weird, but I could really do without it.

Not that crazy about bananas, but I LOVE ice cream. I have to convince myself that once a day is too much, but twice a day is gonna hurt~ but I eat it anyways...

Happy Valentine's Day!

I too imagine that I am riding a horse while on long road trips!! I thought I was the only one!!! That is so funny!! We would gallop across fields, jump fences, even bolt over overpasses. That is so funny!! I am a bit horse obsessed. :)

It's all good, I'll take your share of the ice cream. I'm sure Alexis already consumes your share of the fruit since she can't go a single day without a banana, a pear, and a bowl of raspberries. She will die if she doesn't get her fruit, I'm certain of it.

You are a little odd, I will admit.

So what happens if you drink Iced Tea while eating asparagus? And can you make a rotate your foot in a clockwise circular motion while drawing a counter-clockwise circle with your hand?

I love banana bread, too. But, I also like bananas...you got some fun quirks, K!

Oh crap !!! you found out about Pete TOO ????

I love hearing the odd things about other people. Especially when I can relate. While I love pretty much all fruit, I cannot stand bananas. The taste and smell make me nauseous, literally. Yet I love banana bread. It's nice to know I'm not the only one!

I hear ya on the white chocolate. It is horrid.

I tried to dye my hair blonde and I am a dark brunette. It turned carrot orange. But only on the crown of my head. It was awful. Blue and green tint might be worse...

I'll eat your icecream AND your white chocolate. Send it over. :)

LOL.... your answers are great!

I can only imagine how gross water is from the bathroom faucet. Yuck!

Maria (also Bia) said...

You don't like to drink from the bathroom faucet? I thought I was the only one with that phobia. And the sad thing is that I tell my boys not to drink from the bathroom faucet. "No, sweetie, you need to go down all 18 stairs, traipse into the kitchen, and get a glass of water."

And the strings on the banana? I call them shoestrings, and the only way I'll eat a banana is if it's GREEN. (I've noticed that the more ripe a banana, the more strings there are.)

But the horse thing...that's all yours!

God bless, and thanks for a funny post.

I just typed this whole response to your post, but then it got lost in bloggy-error-world! Anyway, I started at Keri's blog reading about her quirks and then I popped over here...these are SO much fun to read and to learn about people! I just did mine too!

Weird quirks...When I rinse my face, I always count an even number of times. Yeah, I'm a nutjob!

Wow, you sure are weird! Unlike myself who used to stuff her bra with fabric softener sheets so she'd smell like fresh laundry all the time. The horse thing was funny!

Kidzmama said...

I know this is going to come out wrong, but I love hearing about your emabarrassments and phobias! But like Johnina, I was enjoying it until I saw that I was tagged. Yea, remember, I have no embarrassing stories to share and I'm not strange it any way. BUT I'll try my best on this one.

Jennifer @ Fruit of My Hands said...

Yes! White chocolate is awful.

Happy Valentine's Day.

No bananas!? That's bananas! :)
I loved your list....I'm glad I'm not the only one with some of these quirks :)

I have to eat M&Ms in pairs. If I have an odd one, I give it to someone else, or throw it out. And if Justin tries to make me eat the odd M&M, I freak out...literal panic. And it has to be one M&M on each side of my mouth. I also can only have 3 ice cubes in a glass when I'm having ice in my drink. 2 just isn't enough and 4 is too many. I know I do a few other weird things...Justin would know...I certainly didn't think they were weird until he told me so! LOL

I'm the 30th post . . . I love that. Nice and clean--even number. That's my OCD kicking in!

Too funny!!!

Oh, and white chocolate is so NOT chocolate--I'm with ya there!
