I Knew That

The kids were being kids in the back of the van. Laughing, teasing, being silly in general. They were making up nonsensical words. And it was funny.

Becky had to tell Josh what her new word was actually supposed to mean, to which he replied "I knewed that."

And that spawned another fit of giggles. "Knewed. That's funny. I just made a new word, too."

And they giggled and laughed and guffawed.

"Wait till I tell so-and-so at school tomorrow about the new word I made up. I'm gonna start using it all the time."

Sam and I looked at each other. We repressed grins. We rolled our eyes. I think we snorted through our noses. I finally had to tell him.

"Um, Josh. That's a real word and it means naked."

There was a lot of laughter from the back seat the rest of the way home.

BWAHAHAHA!!!

And yet "nude" isn't nearly as fun of a word as "nekked."

there was also a lot of laughter from in front of this here computer... but i bet it was much cuter to hear it from the backseat.

Gotta love the things kids come up with. My personal favorite was "plucky" which meant a thousand yuckies. You have no idea how crushed I was to find out that plucky was, indeed, already a word.

Any other good ones yours came up with yeterday?

Hahahaha!!! Whew. I was reading that thinking, "Oh I hope he doesn't go to school and say that!"

Nude is a funny word, no matter how you spell it. :)

That is so funny! The crazy thing is I thought, "knewed- that sounds familiar. . . isn't that a word?" It's too early in the morning for me to think!

I'm glad for your children's sake that I am not their mother. I was so stuck on the tense problem that I completely missed the nude meaning.

I've become a total geek, haven't I?

It's not nekked, it's Neck Kid. And I once made up a word. 'Bingolay'. It had no meaning, but meant everything. Like the word 'smurf'.

Enjoyed reading your blog. You have four beautiful looking kiddos. I bet they keep you busy.
Darn we have more things in common than horses. I used to own Scotties!!! They are great pets. Will continue through reading the other posts in your blog.

Okay so I was a little late on the joke and had to go back and read the word again. I can be slow like that sometimes :)

Love it. Took me saying it out loud to get it though. Senility is so sad. :)

that is really funny!

I tend to use the word "pry" as a sort of abbreviated way of say "probably". As in "I pry won't go to the grocery store tomorrow morning because we need to leave for the Zoo." I have no idea where I got it from (pry my own warped head), but I use it all the time.

In our house, the preferred term is "butt-naked."

Don't you just hate that when someone older already invented what you just did?
