Other Hospital Related Issues

Being on an IV drip all of Wednesday as well as the overnight Micah was sufficiently hydrated. As in two full diapers changed Thursday morning kind of hydrated. The nurse had to collect these out of the trash in order to believe us. Trust me, after 4 kids we don't change after one pee because we'd need a second job just to supply diapers with that kind of craziness going on.

So as he was wearing his third diaper on Thursday morning, he decided to get down on the floor and play. I was a little skeeved because it's a hospital floor. But you just get to a point where anything that makes the kid happy, you know? Or maybe you don't know, in which case I don't want to know.

So he's sitting there playing with Woody when all of a sudden he gets up and looks down at his pants. He was standing in a puddle of pee. Niiiiice.

And that's why you don't let your kids play on hospital floors. You just never know who peed there last.

So we got home and found this.

Yes, that. That is our couch. Our beautiful leather sofa that I love more than my children.

We may never have house dogs again. I cannot imagine what would possess a dog to eat a hole in a couch. That is an actual hole, not just a popped seam - the dog was eating the couch, not just digging at it.

We do not allow our dogs on our furniture. Not only was it was on the couch, but she took the liberty to shed copious amounts of fur, scratch the couch in the process, and then snack on it.

If the 3 dogs we have in the house weren't all variations on black it would be easier to know who the guilty one is. I may be smelling breath for leather.

We may also have some dogs for sale. Cheap.

I get the hospital floor thing - when mr b was in a nursing home, the girl was 9-10 months and I used to bring 3 clean blankets from home to cover the floor so I was comfortable with her being on it. I washed a lot of blankets in those days.

Those things both suck.

And now I will be sure not to let my kiddo play on the hospital floor. I probably would have, but you tell a good story.

Wow- that is some hole!! I would be pissed!

Sometimes it is so much easier to let the kids play on the floor and clean them later. I understand that!

I'd be checking their poop.

Sorry so late. I just caught up on recent posts. I'm glad Micah's surgery went well and he's re-hydrated.

Yikes about the couch! I'm so sorry :( I'd do a poop check too.

There would be out door dogs only at my house after that! As far as floors go...I've potty trained 3 kids in the last 18 months, I 'm not sure the floor in my house is much more sanitary. Sure I clean it up after, but so does the hospital

And I thought I was skeeved out by Maren sprawling out in the middle of Aisle 12 at the grocery story last week. You are so right, however . . . if being a mom has taught me anything, it is that sometimes you have to choose your battles - and most of the ones that arise with sick children are not worth fighting.

I can only imagine the look on your face when you saw the couch . . . ouch.

Hmmm... when Mister Man was in the hospital for four days with rotovirus, I let him play on the floor when he FINALLY showed just a hint of spark rather than lying there like a rag doll. Now I'm questioning that.

SO bummer about the couch. Ouch! But I have cats and well that's why I'll never have the joy of owning a leather couch. Ever. I'm guessing that a big patch just won't cut it, will it?

Oh NO! I am sorry about your couch! Geez- you need a nanny cam, or I guess a doggy cam in this case!

Girl, my heart goes out to you with your couch. It looks a lot like my leather couch, and I know I love mine more than I love my spawn as well. My Hunny would have a heart attack. I grieve your loss.

This site had a couple of good ideas, my favorite being replacing the holey panel, rather than just patching the hole.

Maybe try some place like this for swatches to try a match. Till you can replace the section of leather, a sofa cover to protect it might be good.

YIKES!!! We don't have dogs, but if we came home and found out cat did something similar, we, most likely, wouldn't have a cat very much longer. My husband would go bananas!

I don't know anything about leather couches...but is there anything you can do to fix it?

I hate hospitals ... no fun! I've been away from this box for a few days so I wasn't "current" on your latest jaunt to the hopsital. Glad it is all behind you now. My son would get a staff infection every time we went to the hospital. It was awful! (And I don't even want to THINK about the floors. My son was in ICU once for a month -- don't even ask how many times they DIDN'T mop the floor -- just gross and disgusting!)

The couch is a tragedy for you, I'm sure, but pardon me for laughing out loud after all the tension with the hospital and staff and such. How long does leather stay on the breath? Is there a leather-lyzer test available? Guess you could say dog "X" was just feeling your pain and acted out a bit ... or not. No dogs for me thanks my chintz would never stand up to their chompers. XOXO + lots of prayers. : )

eeewww -- yucky hospital floor.

sorry about the couch. Dogs can be worse than kids.

I'm glad the surgery went well and Micah seems to be doing great!

My condolences about your couch, though.

Ah! I didn't know Micah was in the hospital! Yikes.

And I thought that was a diaper on your couch. I couldn't believe it when I read it was a hole!

I'm so sorry. What a rotten week.

you need to sit everyone of those doggies down and explain where leather comes from (the scarier you tell it, the better) they might get the hint and behave better when you're gone.

Was Micah sprung since he's hydrated now?

Debbie @ Three Weddings said...

I was going to suggest checking dogging doo doo, but I guess unless you know which one did the deed, even if you found the leather in it, you wouldn't know who ate the couch. Poor, poor couch!

I let my kids play on the floor, I know it's nasty and dirty, but when you are in a hospital, what else can ya do?

And Holy Smokes!! I would be sooooo mad nobody would want to come near me for weeks, months, maybe forever!! I can not believe that your couch got eaten? Maybe the said dog was mad because Micah was not home. Is there no way to fix the couch?

I'm ashamed that I'm this far behind.

But maybe this is the reason Micah won't drink...he's STILL hydrated? :)

hopefully that elicited a small smile.

and I am still in disbelief about the couch...ouch!

Um, my kids did something similar to my couch and I had to keep them.
