The Family Got Socks for Christmas

I don't know about you, but I've about had it with the disappearing sock act. I shop the shelves dry, only to have someone tell me a mere two weeks later that they have no socks. None. My head will explode with the ridiculousness of it someday.

I wash what is given to me. I don't think people in this house realize that. I do not go in search of socks. I do not look under couches, in bed covers, at the bottom of their lockers or inside their boots. If you can't get me a pair of socks to wash, don't yell at me because you can't find them. I am well aware that the washer eats it's fair share, and the dryer ingests a few dozen here and there as well, but you can't blame it all on the machinery. Or mom.

I have a full laundry basket of mismatched socks in my bedroom. They sit there, patiently waiting for their mates to miraculously show up, so that they can once again fulfill their foot warming destiny.

I'm tired of it.

And you know what's worse? The kids take MY socks. They can't find suitable socks to wear, so they take mine. I bought myself TWO new packs of socks not long ago, and they're gone. GONE!

Today I went out and bought socks for us. I got black and pink ones. Nobody is taking those because I can easily identify them. I will also not hesitate to rip them off the foot of anyone brave enough to try sneaking them by me. I bought Becky ones with colored bands around the tops. They will be hers, easily identifiable. Josh got ankle socks, Luke got tube socks with gray bottoms, and Micah got all white ones. I will know, without a shadow of a doubt, whose socks are whose when I do laundry now. And so help me, if someone tells me that they can't find socks, I'll make them walk to school barefoot. In snow. Uphill. Both ways.

my mom did that too when we were growing up -we all had socks with different color sticking. The sock companies are nice enough to help a mom in that department by offering enough different colors, styles, etc. You should make them wear the mismatched socks when they run out :)

So i'm not the only parent that get's the...I cant find any socks.... speal in the morning. or my other favorite is seeing them take their shoes off and have two separate colored/styled socks. Umm yeah..just cause they are clean, does not mean that they are OK to wear mis-matched!! ARGH!!
So.. For Christmas..both kids are getting three sets of socks. And if I find my son wearing my socks again (mind you he's 11!!! so he has small friggin feet!!) so the socks are scrunched all down adn cannot possibly be comfortable. But hey..they are clean socks!! HURUMPH. Yes they WERE clean. but somehow they always have a way to destroy socks. I don't know how they turn black..Oh yeah..thats cause they wear them outside!! that's right...:( No..i'll never be happy LOL...

Have you ever considerd buying those zippered lingere bags?
Put one in each of the kids rooms and tell them that they are responsible for making sure their socks are put in there... then you just take the bag.. Zip it up and throw it in the washing machine... no lost socks and easy to fold and put away neatly.

You could personalize them and put them in their stockings for christmas (they usually sell those zippered bags at the dollar store).

Mis matched socks are actually becoming a fashion statement. I say let them wear mis matched socks and maybe they will take the tome to find them. Debbie in Ca, daughter Rachel makes adorable dolls with their singles. I guess you could get into sock crafting, well then again maybe not. that Cosby routine is so funny.

I've found a good way to avoid anyone stealing your socks is to wear toe socks that look like frogs.

Of course, it could be just because I have boys. Something about froggy toe socks seems weird to the teenager.

You SO need to start making them wear mismatched socks. You would actually be doing them a favor as it seems mismatched is a GOOD thing. http://www.littlemissmatched.com/Catalog/womens-socks

roo-girl actually wears mismatched socks ON PURPOSE. it was how she talked me into the pretty colored ones (i was lobbying for all-white/all-matching).

I found them!!! They're here! There's two full hampers full of socks that I refuse to sort through (hey, I washed and dried them-- that's more than half of the work).

Come on over and get them.

I can totally relate. Clever is the biggest sock looser here. We wear the same size, and she's kind enough to ask before taking a pair, but I hate sharing. She loves to trek in the mud and mulch. My socks never look the same again.

That would learn 'em!

I have a stack of socks, each of them waiting for their mate to turn up - they never do - how is that possible!

uphill with snakes biting at their heels in 7 feet of snow!! LOL!!!

You know that one lady who has like 17 children and another one on the way?? Crazy woman, but she has white socks for the girls and black socks for the boys. That way they never loose socks??

I too have a laundry basket full of odd socks. It's crazy and I am not sure how that happens. One day I went through the pile in the basket and found a few pairs!! Haa haa!!

You go, Mom! So how many socks have disappeared so far?

And umm I'm with you and the mismatched socks. I just keep washing them over. And over. and over. and over. and over....

Girl, I have been there and done that. We still run out of socks. My children even do their own laundry. I usually find that one person is hording all of the socks. Check all their drawers and closets.
