On the Sixth Day of Christmas Luke Turned 8

Last night I let the little boys stay up a little later than I normally do. Luke and Micah go to bed at the same time, and it can take up to an hour to get Micah to settle down long enough to accidentally fall asleep. Needless to say, I'm done with anything productive by the time Micah is out.

So Luke comes to tell me goodnight, and says, "I asked my teacher when I should bring cupcakes for my birthday and she said Friday would be better than Monday."

*blink*blink*

Um, yeh. Luke's birthday is December 6th. I know that, because I birthed the boy. On December 6th. Why did I somehow forget about his birthday cupcakes for school? He's the child that puts a lot of stock in that kind of stuff. Epic Fail, Mom. Way to blow it.

I told him that I didn't have stuff to make them with on hand. I verified that he'd be alright with store bought ones before I failed at motherhood yet again. He graciously said that would be alright.

Being forgiven by an 8 year old feels very, very good. Maybe next year I'll start planning for this in October.

Another day, another winner. The Christmas Crap winner is the lucky Fishsticks and Fireflies. Yeah, you!

****************

And because I am in desperate need of chocolate, I decided to share. Today? It's all about the Ghirardelli's. Two bags. Mint and caramel, because some days, chocolate is better than green beans.

Hmmm, green beans or chocolate...I'll take chocolate any day! :) Or how about a side of green beans with my chocolate...

You are an awesome if extra busy mom. I don't think Luke will ever sit on a couch and say "my mom totally let me down...she sent me store bought baked goods instead of making homemade for my birthday."

And if he does...tell him to get over himself!! ;)

Happy Birthday, Luke :) In Catholic tradition it is also St. Nicholas' birthday -- he's in good company :)

Oh man! I can totally sympathize with you! How many times have my kids made me feel two inches tall just because I so obviously forgot about something big and let them down? A nd I really think the forgiveness is the hardest part for me to handle! I know it should make me feel better but,for some reason it just makes the guilt worse.
Glad it all worked out and he didn't come to you the day after and say something to the effect of "The kids weren't too disappointed at not getting cupcakes..." Now that would suck! ;-)

Ooo, caramel is one of my favorite Ghirardelli flavors! Yum!

And tell Luke to be grateful that they still allow cupcakes at your school. NO sweet treats at all allowed in our schools. Not even for birthdays or Valentine's Day. How did the birthday cupcakes go?
