Seasonal Change

Autumn. It's my favorite season of the year. The air gets crisp, the mornings are chilly, the evenings are made to sit around a fire, the leaves turn colors and fall to the ground, collecting in crunchy piles in corners and against borders. The garden is cleaned out and you can no longer keep windows open all night without piling on another blanket or three.

I love all this about fall. I love wearing sweatshirts in the evening, seeing your breath on the coldest of mornings, and having the opportunity to sip hot chocolate while wearing warm socks. I love the smell of dried flora hanging on the air like a perfume, strong yet subtle.

I love hearing the crunch of leaves underfoot, and still having a soft and living lawn to sink into. I love that the flowers in the gardens are just at the end of their prime, but still good enough to put into vases on the kitchen table. I love the colors of autumn; the golds and purples and oranges.

What I do not love is that this is happening too early. It started at the end of July, and here it is, the beginning of August, and we've experienced all of this already. I won't complain if we are just having an incredibly looong autumn, but if winter thinks it's going to encroach into fall's turf I'll have to put a hurting on Mother Nature.

Anyone know her address?

We're still having summer and never really got a spring. At least not the rain or mild temps.
If you find that bee-otch, let her know I have a list of demands as well. ;-)

I wish I knew. This 90 degree heat has got to stop. The humidity is making my summer afro 10 times worse.

This rain sucks. I know, I know, it keeps the lawn green . . . and way muddy.

We've only had two days of brutal summer heat this year, which is awesome except for the fact that we had Timmy's baptism on one of the days, and I think I got sick from the heat. Go figure.

I love Autumn, it is my most favorite time of year, but I really don't want to see any snow until late October/early November, thankyouverymuch. If that happens, please pass along her address. :)

But you're right !
We've had about 3 days of summer heat... and now it's too chilly to leave the fans in the window at night...

I saw leaves that had already changed and nearly cried. They are definitely a month earlier than they were last year. Waaaaah!

Fer reals? Leaves are changing? Here I am looking forward to fall. It's been the perfect summer and the temps have dropped from 105 to 93. Won't be long before the leaves change. I hope this doesn't bode ill for your winter.

I too love the Fall, and this year I am completely ready for it to come early for the simple fact that my nursing bras don't breathe quite as well as the non-nursing ones do. We have had a very unusal summer - lots of rain and cooler days, and very few days over 90 . . . I heard El Nino mentioned the other day - which out here translates into lots of snow!

I wish I did, I'd give her a piece of my mind, too.

Wow, already? We're still working on getting summer in Chicago. It's been so cool and so rainy for so long that it doesn't feel like summer at all. Fingers crossed winter remains at bay for a long time!
