I'm Not Blonde

You don't know this, as you don't know me, but I'm not blonde. Why am I telling you this? Because I just found out myself. I am 36 years old and just realized that I am not blonde. I have brown hair. But I am not the stupidest blonde around. Because for one I am not blonde. And because I had blonde hair all my life. Seriously.

I was born with blonde hair and had blonde hair growing up. In all my school pictures, our family pictures, even my senior pictures I was wearing different shades of blonde. Looking back now I realize that it was getting steadily darker. I blamed this on the fact that I was not out in the sun as much as I got older. You know; college, working and all that.

So I've been under the delusion that I'm blonde all these years. And today I found a box of auburn hair glaze and thought I'd go darker for a change. (And because my husband said "you should try that." What's he saying?!) So I did. I tried it. But only a little bit because I didn't want a drastic change. I used part of the bottle and waited the required time. I dried and styled it and couldn't really tell a difference. I waited several hours and kept checking but it didn't darken with time. Apparently I didn't use enough. So I nearly finished the bottle on the second application. I could definitely tell a difference now. It was just a tad more red than usual. Hmmm. Well I'd give it the test that doesn't lie.

I sat patiently waiting for the kids to come home. Ah, there's the bus. In they come. Nobody stopped to stare. I'm inundated with bookbags and papers to sign. Nobody said "what did you do to your hair!" Hmmm Not a one of them said I looked funny. It seems as though I'm a natural auburn. Who knew?

HA!

I think everyone goes through this. I tend to spend a lot of time in the sun in the summers, and my hair lightens easily, so I can get away with saying I am "blond" during some months, but in truth my hair is always getting darker and I don't really pay attention to the fact. When I was a boy I was completely blond, and I still envision myself that way most of the time, even if it's not entirely accurate...

the same thing has happened w/my hair! It used to be blonde too and for the longest time I fought saying I had brown hair, I stubbornly still said blond LOL If you look at my hair in pics it looks so dark, but I don't think it looks like that in person. The hairdresser said a mix between dishwater blond (gee thanks! LOL) or mousey brown - is that any better? :) I'm getting some highlights in next month to try and lighten it back up some, but its a different type of highlight where they don't use chemicals (forget what she said it was called) sorry no one noticed the difference w/your coloring!

The same thing happened to me! I was white hair blonde when I was young, and as I have gotten older my hair changed to brown. My hair-dresser says that it is officially brown. Now it is brown with blonde hightlights... (Gotta hide the gray hair somehow)

LOL! I hear you sister! Same with me although I opt to stay blonde because no one likes it brown...
