It's Bizness, Continued

I got a lot of interesting feedback from my poll. First of all let me say that you all seem to know how to keep a husband happy. You go, girls! And we're assuming here that your poll results were based on what you do with your husband, not someone else's. I heard from a few that my answers didn't accurately reflect what you needed to say. I'd thought of doing another poll just for the fun of it because let's face it, someone else's sex life is terribly exciting. But I got what I needed out of the questionnaire. Whether you put out regularly or sporadically, it seems that your hubby is getting it weekly when you average it out. So I guess that I still get to be right. Even though my husband is not above average, he's certainly not deprived by even his standards. And that's all I needed to know. I'm right, he's wrong, end of poll. Thank you for allowing me to say that.

We got the dog's test results back from the vet. One of his thyroid readings came in at 10, and should be between 8 and 40. He's on the very low end, but still within normal parameters. The vet gave us a few options and we chose to put him on meds for a trial period to see what would happen. We're really hoping it's a quick and easy fix for his lack of libodo. I find it amusingly ironic that his thyroid pills are little and blue.

I had Day Two at the gym today. I wasn't sore at all yesterday, but I could feel the underlying tension in my muscles. I knew that if I pushed them to do anything today (like getting myself out of bed) they would protest. I was right. My muscles knew I had intentions of punishing them further, so they protested in earnest. Things weren't so bad this morning, you know - general soreness and all. The kind that says "oh yeh, that was a good workout yesterday and I'm feelin' good about myself for it!" But the gym time today made them realize that I wasn't going to let them off easy. I feel like this, after just two days.

I'm not saying I'm that fit (if that's what you call that disgusting mass of muscle), I'm saying my arms feel that swollen and sore. Carrying the groceries in today took longer than it should have because I couldn't carry more than one bag at a time. Ouch. In reality, this is more like me at the gym.

I feel like an idiot sweating over the simplest tasks when other gym rats are all buff and fit. But it's only Day Two for me, and I'm very proud of myself for even being there. Some day others will look at me and think of themselves as the hamster among rats. So to speak.

I had an evil plan, as my husband said, and it worked. I give baby gifts for every shower AND when the tiny bundle arrives in the world. I do this because I love to give gifts, but the ulterior motive is that I may get business from the new parents. I know, it's downright underhanded and sneaky. But hey, I'm not making these people buy things so all's fair in love and war. Or something like that.

So anyway, one of my husband's bosses had a baby last summer and somehow I missed the great event. I talked to said boss and his wife at the Christmas party and realized that they had a 6 month old. Oops. I remedied the oversight on my part by making not only the baby boy but his older sister a shirt as a gift. But the best laid plans never go well. My sewing machine ate tiny holes in the older sister's shirt and I didn't know what to do about this. I simply cannot give a customer (or anyone!) a shirt like that, but as it was pink with a purse on it I wasn't going to allow Micah to wear it either. Drat. I gave it to her anyway, with a note explaining that the quality was terribly inferior and I was rather ashamed of it, and also included a pizza set since she needed a big sister gift. But you can't give the big sister more than you give the new baby, so I had to include a toy for him as well. All in all it was a bag full of goodies that either made me look like a complete and total idiot or a super generous suck up.

Either way, my plan worked. Boss's wife called to thank me personally this evening and placed an obscenely large order from the store for some custom shirts, pants, hair bands, bibs and onesies. The timing is awesome - it'll be wonderful to have that order done before our get away conference thingie that we reserved that room for. Spending money makes out of town trips so much more fun.

I love the pics~ that hamster is so darn cute! And look at you, day 2 at the gym! I think that is harder than day one because you are already sore and you know what you are in for. You are way ahead of me.

Congrats on the HUGE order! :)

Way to go with the bosses wife! Yeah! Isn't that the most exciting thing? And making baby clothes is the most satisfying thing ever. Okay, and designing and making clown costumes.

I don't think it's wrong, it's good business sense.

And how did I miss out on THAT poll? I gotta stop cleaning my house and doing laundry I'm missing out on way too much.

Good for you on the order!

You are a very clever sales person if you ask me - very smart and generous at the same time.

I nearly just skipped over the gym story - started making me feel so lazy and do-less, but good for you. You are my inspiration! Keep it up.

Have a good weekend Karen - see you later. Kellan

Doesn't it feel good to be able to say to your husband you were right AND you have proof?? I missed the final results though...

Way to go, hitting the gym! I'm impressed. I was hoping to start up yoga again, but the baby is just not consistent enough to give me time in the morning.

I think you are very generous, and a super smart business woman. But will this big order interfer with the order I've been meaning to place? I better place my order already! Tonight. I promise! (I hope.)

I'm going to have to agree with Kellan. You are very clever. Nothing is wrong with advertising your products!

You are good to go to the gym. I have to work out at home. For some reason I can't stand gyms.!?!?!

Wow! congrats on the big order!!! that is great news! :)

and I'm with you...in high school I had a friend who swore I had arms like a T-rex. At least a hamster is much cuter! And that's great that you are still getting into that gym. The last time hubby bought a gym membership and went like 3 times before it expired, I told him he wasn't allowed to do it again unless he was willing to be reminded by me several times per week (it was an obscene waste of money). He hasn't gone since.

You are a genius at marketing strategy. Really. Congrats on the big order, and I hope you don't want to hurt me when I place another order soon. I need baby gifts and I have a new nephew that doesn't yet have a Niles of his own. We just can't have that.

I'm still in awe of your gym dedication. I walked about a kajillion miles today and there is no way I'll be doing it again soon. I love my couch too much, and so does my big butt.

I appreciate that nobody is offended at my marketing strategy. Really, I try not to be pushy because I find that a huge turn-off.

And thankfully most of the order is pre-made and won't tie me up too much with custom work. Which means that I'd love, love, love to have orders from my bloggy peeps. But don't forget to mention my blog when you order because I'd love to give you a discount. :)

I'm running behind on my reading again, but I know that getting a comment late is better than getting no comment at all.

Your marketing idea is great. And it's not being sneaky at all, it's you being you. Perfect.

Day 2 deserves a high five. I know how much those muscles are hurting, but it's worth it. I remember when I first started going to the gym and lifting weights. I'd always go for the three and five pound ones and the woman next to me would be lifting the ten pound ones and not sweat. She was probably laughing at my stick arms. Or just remembering where she started. Keep it up!
