You Read What?!

I was tagged by Maria at Mommy of 4 for a book meme. I've seen this over many blogs and have put this off because my book reading has degressed to preschool tomes since becoming a mommy. Not that I'm ashamed of this by any means, but I'm wondering what books I've read lately. And then there's the problem of my poor memory. I'm really sure dementia is setting in early (Alzheimer's runs in the family) but I can read the same book over and over and enjoy it every single time. Sometimes I do. And most of these I can't even remember the names of. So how on earth will I do this meme with any kind of correct answers? I've decided to do it in true Rocking Pony fashion. By my own rules.

*1. One book that changed my life: The Little Engine That Could

*2. One book that you have read more than once: My personal favorite is Gone With the Wind. I'm currently reading it for the batrillionth time, and loving it. Again. Also Anne of Green Gables. Childish, I know, but I love it anyway. The whole series, actually. But the first and last are the very best, hands-down.

*3. One book that you want on a desert island: Is there one entitled How to Get Off Desert Islands for Dummies?

*4. One book that made me laugh: Dr. Seuss usually has that effect on me. He cracks me up.

*5. One book that made me cry: Rilla of Ingleside. Every single time. (I remember that this one makes me cry, hence it's listed. I know that Old Yeller did that to me, too. But I haven't read that since I was a kid.)

*6. One book I wish had been written: See #3

*7. One book I wish had not been written: The lame sequel to Gone With the Wind. Being the most avid fan of that book, you can't imagine the horrors the follow-up was. Not by the same author should have been my first clue. (I can't remember it's lame name. It doesn't matter. It was that kinda bad.)

*8. One book I am currently reading: See #2. Add to that list An Unstoppable Force by Irwin McManus, Talking to Tweens by Elizabeth Hartley-Brewer and Letters to George Bush by kids all over America. I read parts of the Bible every day. It's what helps me cope.

*9. One book I've been meaning to read: Anything really. I'm just dying for a good book. Something that's new and exciting and I haven't read before. I so need a few hours in a good book store.

And I will break all bloggy rules and tag absolutely nobody with this. I've got a few in the que and need to save myself. If anyone has a good read to suggest, I'll be glad to entertain the notion. I needs me an adult book! Okay, well, not as in R rated or anything, but something that has more words on the page than pictures would be good.

Oh! Oh! Oh! Read Thorn in My Heart, by Liz Curtis Higgs! It's a historical romance and it's HEART BREAKING. It's also the first in a trilogy. And they're all good!

And if you like action, there's Blink, by Ted Dekker.

I think the book that makes me cry is Are You My Mother? That's my all time favorite. Oh! And A Fly Went By.

Did you read any of Pat Conroy's books? The Lords of Discipline was great!

As I was reading, I kept thinking, "please don't tag me." Thanks for listening!

I can offer no suggestions as I am currently reside in the land of monkeys that jump on the bed, Sandra Boynton, and Dr. Seuss. It's a good land, but not quite right for recommending.

I am sure you will get lots of suggestions. How about The Kite Runner? I can't remember the author off the top of my head, but it is very popular. EXCELLENT book. He has a sequel too, and I am reading it now. Could not put down!!!

Oh my- between my classroom of 2nd graders and my own children- I don't think I have even read a book that has more words then pictures in at least the last 8 years. I am horrified to realize I can't remember the last book I read that wasn't a kid book, for a class I was taking, a manual for teaching, etc.....I have a devotional I read before bed, (wipes sweat from forehead)- thank goodness I have something!

Thanks for sharing! I am new to your blog- but I have quickly fallen in love! I am enjoying stopping by daily and reading your blog!

I just did this book meme, too!

Anne of Green Gables...sigh. It's been a while since I've read them, but now I'm going to have to dig them out.

Have a great day.

Can you believe I never read Anne of Green Gables? I will have to rectify that.

I love to recommend books, but it depends on your interests. I'm currently reading Jane Austen's Mansfield Park, and I highly recommend her. If you like romances, Jo Beverly is a great writer. If you like fantasy, I highly recommend Neil Gaimen (American Gods is a fantastic book, even if you don't like fantasy). So there are some.

The sequel to Gone with the Wind was Scarlett, and I own it but haven't read it because I was too nervous that it would screw up the story. Glad to hear your opinion on it!

Were in the same boat sister. I'm lucky if I get time to peek in a magazine. I have a subscription to parenting which usually stays in my car for the car line at school. Yet lately I seem to be in the back entertaining the baby instead!

It was called "Scarlett" and it was indeed, horrid.

I was doing the same as BB's mom, so glad I wasn't tagged for this one. I haven't read a book longer than twenty pages with large type in a long time. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom rocks!

Have you read A Confederacy of Dunces? It's such a great book, and completely unique and clever. I can't recommend it more strongly.
