I was teaching in childrens' church about compassion. The kids were given a picture of various items of clothing that they had to figure out how to use to help someone. It couldn't be used for it's intended purpose and couldn't be destroyed.
(i.e., the umbrella could be used for shade, but not to protect from rain. The hat could be used to carry water, but not to wear on their head.)
The kids were being all kinds of creative, as only kids can be. The boys had someone using the hat as a toilet. Boys will be boys.
But it was the girls that took over the class that day. They had some poor unfortunate soul using the suspenders as a thong.
There are so many reasons why that is all kinds of wrong. But we won't go there. The boys had no clue what a thong was. (Bless their naive little adolescent hearts.) The girls quickly clued them in.
I have seen these boys belch, flatulate and insult girls on any given day. But I've never seen them turn all shades of red over the description of an undergarment. They are now enlightened.
I don't even want to know what their parents thought when they asked, "so, what did you learn in church today?"

That is awesome, God would be so proud!
Boy has Christian education changed since I went to Sunday School.
I sort of want you to find out if their parents did ask! That would be freaking hilarious!!!!
ROTFL!! I love kids! They have all the best ideas.
Now, that's some serious englightenment! I bet the parents don't even ask.
OMG, that cracks me up! I was going to ask you how old they were until you said adolescent -- wondering at what age they can think abstractly enough for this to work. A thong. Wow. I wonder how many calls you'll get ;)
That just scares me that the girls knew what a thong was. That's got to be one interesting conversation with the parents. Wouldn't you like to be a fly on that wall?
Hmmm....next week's lesson should be What Would Jesus Wear?
OMG! I actually snorted when I laughed!
I bet those poor little boys nearly died! Bwahahahahaa!
Haha! That is hilarious! How old were the children?
HAHAHA!! I wish I could have seen those poor boys' faces.
ah...that's the best!!! Bless little boys for being slower to learn about these things.
Um, yeah can't wait until you get calls from the parents!
THAT is funny!
Boys, for all their crudeness, are really quite naive. I recently took my two older sons (ages 11,13) to see the new Indiana Jones movie, and they became a little confused when Indy finds out Mudd is his son. Both my boys asked me how that can be since Marian and Indy hadn't seen each other in 18 years. Uhmmm . . .
How funny - you are such a good teacher - HA!
Have a good day - Kellan
We had nuns; they didn't know from thongs ...thanks gawd!
I clearly attended the wrong church growing-up!
I'm surprised the boys didn't think to turn thongs into slingshots. That's what "David" would do!
Tooooo funny!
do you teach sex ed in sunday school too?
Ha ha ha! That is excellent.
Awesome. You are THAT teacher!
LOL! I have to say I've never heard of learning about underwear in church! Impressive the knowledge you can pass on! ;)
ROFL! Love it! They have to learn about it somehow ;)
Melissa - Of course you have. You read my Holy Public Panties. I have quite the reputation for underwear in church apparently.
Thongs are the type of shoes Jesus wore, with the little straps which go between the toes. We've all seen the pictures, right?
Whauahahahah!! That is so funny!! Great post!! I teach the one 16 year old girl at church, we have fun like that too!! Love it!
What a freakin hoot!
Oh, I wish my kids had been in that class. It would've made for some great lunchtime conversations :-)
Jeez, if I had Sunday School like that I wouldn't have fought with my mom to not go!
(although I was a good girl and still went to the main service...even as a little kid I always figured that's where the real meat was...and the communion crackers)
As a Sunday School teacher for 20 years, I can definitely relate to this one - hilarious!
