Oh, Starbucks, How Do I Love Thee?

I was introduced to the yumminess that is Starbucks by some dear friends of ours. And shortly thereafter we had a Starbucks open in our own teeny tiny town. Why yes, we've finally made the map!

There are so many, many reasons why I love this fashionable coffee hangout. First of all are the drinks themselves. It's like sipping the nectar of the gods every time I get a cup. My blood pressure drops, my overactive mind slows just a tad and even my patience is extended just a bit. If I could only figure out what they put in their drinks to produce all this in myself I'd be much easier to live with on a regular basis. At least my kids would think so.

And the people who work there are angels merely putting in time with mortals. Why else would each and every one of them take a personal interest in Micah? They ask about his speech development, they ask me what signs to use to communicate with him, and they give him free half-cookies. He loves Starbucks every bit as much as I do. The dear and wonderful workers don't even mind when he jumps on their overstuffed chairs.

I was there the other day when I overheard a barista tell another to "give that guy an extra pump of flavor. He's a regular." And then the light bulb came on. That's why my peppermint mochas taste so much better at my local Starbucks than they do elsewhere. I'm a regular! Or at least regular enough to get benefits. And this also explains why sometimes I'm not charged for the flavor. Have I mentioned that I love my Starbucks? It's a hot and torrid affair.

But I was told something recently that probably everyone else knows anyway. If you buy a Starbucks card and register it online, you'll get free flavors and extras when you use it. How cool is that?! Whether you're a regular or not, you can benefit from being a card carrying customer. They said they'll be adding even more benefits for card holders in the future. And if you purchase and register a card by July 14 you get a coupon for a free beverage of your choice. For every card that you register.

Starbucks, how much do I love thee? Apparently a little too much.

I want to make out with peppermint mochas.

How sweet that they ask you about Micah! The Starbucks I frequent by my lawschool has this incredibly tall, vast, VERY VERY gay man who says, "Have a delicious day" in the gayest voice you can imagine when he gives me my coffee. Not that there's anything wrong with it, it's just really funny when you see it in person.

I have yet to be sucked into the Starbucks black hole. The day I decide to be a fan - search one out - get hip with it - they will probably be out of business - that's the way I roll! Enjoy yours!

Happy 4th of July to you and your family - see you soon - Kellan

I have only ever been inside one Starbucks in my life, am I a loser? I am not a big coffee fan, i have a hard time walking down that isle at the grocery store. But one girl I used to work with always had some carmel thing that smelled yummy!!!

That's awesome that you are a regular and you get the benefits!

I have to say, I really loathe Starbucks coffee. It's the burn roasting that they do. It's just too bitter. Their foo foo drinks are okay, but the regular coffee is not my cup of tea.

Oh, this is NOT good news. I have a hard enough time being good and avoiding that place, now you're telling me how I can get freebies and more flavor. You are an evil woman and my Hubby will not be happy with you.

So I'll admit that the only thing I ever drink from Starbucks is the hot chocolate. And even with that, I only get it when its really, truly cold here.

That might explain why I heard a news story that Starbucks is closing something like 600 stores.

(not my lack of patronage, specifically, just the lack of cold weather in this desert!)

Oh how I wish we had a Starbucks close by! Of course, maybe that is a good thing...I am sure I could easily get addicted!

I am slowly being sucked in. I'm just a regular coffee kinda girl, but I discovered their cinnamon dolce lattes. Very, very bad move on my part. To Die For.

I'm in deep...really deep. But I don't go to the same one each time since I.am.surrounded. Between my house and my office there are 10 Starbucks that I know of. Although there are only three that I usually use when I allow myself my crack. There was a barista at one of them that we called the Starbucks Nazi (ala Seinfeld's Soup Nazi), and it wasn't because he was mean, but he was mid-Eastern and would holler out the drinks in his thick aggressive accent, except to those regulars he knew...then he just handed your drink to you very seriously and repeated the drink name in a normal speaking voice (instead of using a greeting). He was awesome. I miss him. And the honey lattes...who knew they were for a limited time? *sigh* But I guess I'll have to get that card and see if I can't rationalize more frequent visits to Starbucks.

Oooo, Karen. I need to stay away from Starbucks. The calories there don't like me nearly as much as I like them. BUT the info on registering the cards is good to know, as my husband always gets gift cards there from his students at Christmas and end of year that he love to use. Interesting!

Oh... and you WON my Pay It Forward contest! Yay, someone I sort of know!

I love Starbucks so much that I might get in my car in a few and drive the 25 miles to the closest one. That is dedication.
