Where Is That Elusive Ship?

You hear people who say that they started blogging with the hopes of making money. This statement makes me scratch my head in wonderment, because in reality blogging probably costs money if anything.

Listen to me, people. If you're going to be uber successful at the blogging thing and actually make a few bucks here and there, you've gotta put time into it. Lots of time. Quit your job and spend it in the blogosphere kind of time. And then you can sit back and hope that the money may trickle through the cracks and roll across the floor. When it does it'll probably go down the heater vents. I'm just sayin'.

Oh, and you've got to have something grand and spectacular to say. Even more grand and spectacular than the other 15,714 people that said the exact same thing. Yeh, stand out in that crowd.

Don't get me wrong - I'd love to make money blogging. Lots and lots of money. It would be so nice if I could be the Sugar Mama of my husband's dreams and make enough to feed our family, feed the dogs, and pay for a maid just by writing drivel every day. But the sad fact remains that each one of us has important drivel to share and the competition is stiff. But I have a plan. I always do.

Are you signed up for BlogHer Ads? If not, I hear they're accepting applications again. With those spiffy, ever-changing ads that take up the whole of a sidebar, you get paid per click. It's literally fractions of a penny per click, but those clickies add up and next thing you know (ahem*sixmonthslater*ahem) you have a check for $20 right there in your hand. I am not even kidding.

Now while this is not really college fund type of dough, it will but a cheap meal for you and the spouse. If you don't buy drinks. And if you go over lunch and get the special. I think.

So here's my plan: we'll choose someone from amongst our ranks each day and they will be the Lucky One of the Day. The rest of us will click here, there and everywhere on The Chosen One's blog that day and seriously up the number of pennies she draws in. If we get this organized just so, we could stand to make at least $50 a month. I mean, with Christmas coming right around the next corner, we could all use that $50 to buy cards with.

Okay, so shoot me. It sounded like a good plan in my head.

That's a very cool plan. I'm willing to click the chosen one's ads each day.

Sounds like a plan to me! :)

Hmmm. Wait. Back up. Blogher has ads? Aren't they the ones who did the conference this summer? You can see that apparently I missed out on this money making scheme. I may have to go investigate this Blogher ad thing. And I'm all in favor of $20 is better than no $20! And supporting others :)

Sure, I'll click. I have shied away from blogher adds on my blog only because I don't know enough about them. Like can they advertise anything they want on your site or can you say, for instance, "no political campaign adds on my blog." I don't think I could bear to see a presidential nominee on my blog. Ugh.

Oh... I fogot to mention, I loved the Sugar Mama comment. I think that is my husbands dream.

You're amazing! Am sure they'd see through the plan and change the rules pretty quick though.

Sounds like a good plan to me! I know it takes me months to get to that $20 and with the holidays it wouldn't hurt to have a few more buck....thanks for thinking of the idea.

I think these same thoughts about blogging every. day. I don't have ads on my site, but that may be due more to laziness than anything else.

Karen - you can opt out of certain ads, including political ones. There are a lot of people who feel that way.

That is an awesome idea! Count me in.

Sounds like a great idea to me! When I got my first (and only) check from BlogHer Ads over the summer, I was so excited. I had been writing for almost 9 months and got a $26.42 check. My husband wanted to figure out how much that equaled per hour, but I wouldn't let him.

LOL! Sounds like a good plan to me. I was shocked when I got my $30 check after writing for 6 months. I didn't even think I would get that much.

Though like you said, it paid for dinner. And I would have been blogging anyway.

I'm on my way to click through for you...

What if we just each mail each other a whole penny?
(ok, this is coming from the woman who has 20 little packages sitting in her house because the flu hit before I could get them to the post)(yes, one is yours).

I'm laughing.

Entrecard.com has this sorta thing going on. You just click on other people's ads and they click on yours. I'm trying it there, and I'll probabaly make a whole extra dollar over the next six months too.

So, explain to me, we're not in this for the money...so why do we do it again?

I think it is a great idea and am willing to help out.

I do like my blogher check but realized that I am not in it for money. :)

I'm like you...after 6 months I get a $20-something check. But it's $20-something more than I had last week. :) But I'd be game.
