I woke up this morning and was greeted with something that I just wasn't prepared for. I mean, I knew the day would evenutally come but I was hoping it would not come so soon.
There was a heavy frost on the ground.
Can you believe it? On October 7 for Pete's sake. What gives?
So I spent my evening canning tomatoes because stupid me didn't get the memo from Mother Nature that she was going to kill all living things while I slept.
Don't get me wrong, I love this season best of all.
I love the crisp air that isn't afraid to nip you as you stroll through the crunchy leaves.
I love to inhale a lung full of the fragrance of leaves and wood smoke.
I love driving through the hills and seeing the reds, golds, greens and browns all mixed together on the trees like a tapestry in technicolor.
I love snuggling in warm blankets on chilly nights when it's not quite cold enough to turn the heat on but definitely too cold to walk around without fear of your feet freezing to the floor.
I love Starbucks Caramel Apple Cider.
But a light frost would have sufficed. Really.

Keep in mind that when I make this comment, it is actually with disgust in my tone, because anyone who knows me at all knows that I am crazy in love with actual REAL seasons, and miss the fall like crazy....
It was 97 here today. And expected to be more of the same All.Stinkin'.Week.
Stupid desert.
yeah, in the 90s here too. i'd love a little frost!
It was in the 60's here today and the kids are looking forward to cold. That's something for a bunch of Florida kids. Enjoy your cider!
I live in the Phoenix Metro area....and unfortunately, it's been in the 90's today..I'd just about fall in love with someone if they turned the heat OFF LOL.

LOVE the picture! It says it perfectly. It's not quite that cold here in mid-Ohio but we're getting close. Brrrr.
You share this the same day you tell me to come for a visit - RIGHT! Have you tried the new Starbucks hot chocolate with salt - sounds odd but SOO good.
And here I was whining because it was a little chilly today! I'll quit complaining now. I'm partial to the pumpkin latte's myself with whipped cream, of course.
Yeah, I'm a little bit afraid of frost here. It's definitely been below freezing at night a couple nights. But my garden has so much more growing yet to do! I'm not ready for this. Here's hoping it's your last frost for awhile.
This weekend its supposed to be COLD around these parts. NOT looking forward to that early morning football game on Saturday.
Cool pic!
Yup, my car this mornign told me it was 40 degrees. I wasn't ready for that either!!
Ah yes, it's getting to be that time of year. Frost on the pumpkins...soon to be snow on the ground...
Hold me while I cry...;)
Oh geez, its-a comin' our way too...and I have an outdoor wedding to go to on Saturday! But you're right, this is one of the most beautiful seasons!!
Is it ever not cold enough to turn the furnace on?
We don't garden, so the frost isn't an issue there. It is an issue because our cars are parked outside and it's a chore to get the car windows clear enough to drive to the kids to school.
Starbucks caramel apple cider ... sounds heavenly.
OK, so how did TWO of us miss the whole "frost is possible" memo? What ever happened to Pittsburgh media acting like the world is ending any time there is a very slight change in the weather?
I'm OK with it frosting since I stopped taking care of stuff a while ago, but a LITTLE WARNING, please. Geesh!
yeah, death to all veg in the middle of the night sucks, but WOW does it make beautiful photos!
Dude, it's getting really nippy here too. I'm starting to become less of a fan of Fall.
So well put! It's just barely getting into the 40's here at night sometimes! I just love it!
Great post!
How long does it take to can tomoatoes with sick dogs and kids running around? You don't sleep do you!!
We got that frost too - sigh!
It's still been pretty warm here. Did all my 'maters already. WHAT a job! lol!
No frost here yet.....but snow forecasted for this weekend. My question is.....Is that fall weather or winter weather? It's so hard to tell in Intermountain West.
Frost? FROST?!?! Not here my friend. And I had the boob sweat to prove it.
it was cool, but definitely no frost.
in fact, we were a very balmy 78 today. :)
