Ahhhh, November

My favorite season of the year is Autumn.

For those who live in the desert, or California, seasons are when the weather changes and you get fun things like snow, colored leaves, and daffodils in springtime.

My three favorite months of the year are September, October and November. I know what you're thinking. November? What is wrong with her? But seriously, I love it. October is all about the glory of colored leaves and crisp fall days. The first frost, seeing your breath in the early mornings and lighting the first fire in the wood stove. October gets Halloween and all the chocolaty goodness that goes along with it.

And immediately following the spooky, scary, over-the-top holiday of Halloween is November first. As a child I went to bed on Halloween a wee bit afraid of every shadow that moved, jumping at every creaky moan the old farmhouse made. Laying in bed wide-eyed listening to my sister breathing and wondering if it was just her or something else.

And then I'd wake up the next morning to November. November, with it's bare trees, it's quiet stillness, it's restful peace. November has early morning sunlight filtered through open trees, sweaters and hot cocoa, and beautiful red sunsets. November has a few white snowfalls that are a taste of December to come, but they don't stick around which makes them oh-so-fun. There's nothing in November until Thanksgiving. You slide for a whole month in the slow pace of happy, restful quietness, waiting for a celebration with family and friends at the end.

November is like that for me even now. See?

And to put that into perspective, this was October.

And September.

You get the picture, right? I'm loving November. I might actually get caught up on some work around here. And decorate for Christmas early.

Wow. That is one empty calendar. I think I had more things to do today than you had the entire month written. Can I trade? PLEASE? :)

I am impressed with the clear calendar! November certainly is the month of rest for your household, isn't it? Enjoy it!

I love, love, love November. Delightfully non-commercial (once the election ends, that is) and oh so s-l-o-w-l-y paced. My calendar smile with wide open spaces. : D

Too much Christmas pressure in November for me!

i'm so jealous. i miss fall. we went to visit friends in wisconsin 2 weeks ago, but the leaves had all dropped already, so we missed it! i was so bummed.

it's 84 outside right now (at 6:30pm). i don't like that. i like cold evenings/mornings, wearing sweaters, and warming my hands on a steaming cup of hot chocolate.

hot chocolate just isn't the same when it's 84 outside

I know -- soccer is over, Halloween is over, the kids' September birthdays are behind us, and the kids are in a homework and school routine. Yay, November!

But then I remember that Christmas is looming -- or more specifically Christmas shopping. Those blank calendar days are deceiving!

Hope your calendar stays open.

I love it too, even if it was 76 degrees this afternoon which is beyootiful! It will not get cold here until January and then we still have a lot of nice sunshiny days. I love Thanksgiving. I liked it so much better when there was no Christmas in the stores until December first. One year I sent a thanksgiving letter instead of a Christmas letter and everybody loved it. Like you say there is more time in November. Hopefully your calendar will stay like that! How are the puppies doing?
