Domestic Help Is Overrated

Any mom knows that help around the house is always appreciated. I do not discourage my children from housework. Ever. If they want to take a turn vacuuming (for instance), I relenquish control and let them play. Sure, they may not get anything clean, but I don't want them to associate the vacuum as something negative.

So today the kids were off school today, courtesy of the ice storm.

And I had lots of help from Micah. He wanted to use Mr. Dyson first. He sucked up a drum stick with the hose. How does one do that?

I shuffled some laundry because it's a never-ending job here, much like it is at your place, I'm sure. Micah loves helping with the laundry. The super-cool front-loading washer has fun buttons right there on the front, that light up and glow in the dark. I'm out of the habit of using the child lock option now that Micah is in school.

He turned the washer off mid-cycle. I had to start it all over again. The one downfall with that wonder-machine is that it has a 2 hour run time. Now it was more like 3 hours. It's no wonder laundry is never-ending here. By the time a wash cycle is done, and I remember to change it, I only get 2 loads done per day, tops.

A day's chores aren't complete without helping with the puppies. This includes spreading papers all over the floor (not the kennel) and taking pictures. But picture taking tends to get out of hand.

It's incredibly sad that my 5 year old's photos are so much better than most of the ones that I take. Maybe I should put him in charge of the Canon in the future.

And yes, it's still Christmas Wonderland here.

He's got a pretty good eye, Karen! Maybe you have the next Ansel Adams on your hands!

You are daring to trust Mr. Dyson to Micah...I'm like Monica from Friends...no one uses my Dyson except me...and then I use my dustbuster to clean it...not really, but close ;)

The ice storm just missed. The kids were up this morning asking me to turn on the news just to make sure they didn't have any delays. None. Phew!

There is such thing as too much domestic help. Especially when our almost two year old wants to empty the dishwasher of the silverware!

Whew! I got my Christmas put away today! All one and a half boxes worth. :) Our ice storm was the week BEFORE school was out. Woo. Hope it's cleared up some by tomorrow!

It was a school day - so the tree is down! Is that a Cinderella ornament? And, you're lucky the washer door didn't open with water in it - mine has had that happen...thanks to a toddler. Oh, and we have the same Dyson. He's my lover.

I want to see puppy photos!

And I'm impressed with Dyson ... that he can suck up a drumstick is quite a feat. Hawt.

I love the photos taken by kids. It is always a new perspective. I musgt also mention how good you tree still looks. Mine had to come down because of the constant redecorating happening by three of my four children. (No tree should have to endure looking like ours was.)

An ice storm is something I have not yet experienced. I looks beautiful.

Wow, now that's an ice storm. For all the yuckiness of it, they are beautiful, aren't they?

And a drum stick? Impressive. So did it make it all the way down the hose and into the bagless part or just way into the hose?

I'll be putting away Christmas crap for about the next three months. Mostly because I keep putting it off.

Y'all got WAY more ice than we did. I'd be jealous, except I'm at least smarter than that. Give me snow any day, but you can keep the ice.

What a winter wonderland!

My neighbor just got a washing machine like yours and when I was cat sitting I went in a looked at the pretty buttons and lights. It is certainly addicting! I almost took some of my clothes over to do a load of laundry just so I could play!

Lucky you- no school!! I agree, if the kids want to help- have at it! Max is great with a vacuum. He even uses the crevice tool to do the base boards! But really- how do you suck up a drum stick?!!

Miach's photo sessions look a lot like what is always on my camera. I find some very odd ones at times.

Uh, yeah, our tree is still up as well. I think they should be left up until the days start to get longer. Too much darkness!

Why does your washer take two hours? Does it do something special to your laundry while its being washed (like sewing on loose buttons)?

You're just trying to make me feel better about the Easter wreath on my front door... ;-)

Hooray, I am not the only one with my tree sitll up!! LOL!!

And I hate it when the kids play with the buttons on the washer. If they cancel it I will just do an express wash, that is only 30 minutes

Well you know it's still Christmas at my house too....

My kids are always trying to "help" cook dinner in my minuscule kitchen. I literally have to stand behind them and lean over them. And then they complain they are SO hungry.

Darn it you can't help and get dinner fast people!
