Die.Hard.
In fact, he's so pro-Browns that he carries the animosity between the Browns and the Steelers personally. We hired him, and he took the position, despite this obvious difference in team loyalties. This, of course, incites the Steelers Nation within our church to even higher levels of team spirit.
I'll bet a good third of our congregation was dressed appropriately in black and gold. Even the ushers were proudly wearing our team colors. Well, except that one guy in a green shirt with a tie. I'll bet he felt really awkward for not getting the memo.
During the service we even had a Terrible Towel wave occasionally in place of a hearty Amen. This seriously threw the pastor's concentration off because even the sight of all the black and gold in the pews gets him riled.
On every Steelers Game Day there is someone who finds it highly amusing to anonymously gift the pastor a Steelers memento. He has made it very clear that he will not wear it, he does not want it, and he does not appreciate the sentiment behind it. (The ingrate.) And yet, we find it highly amusing. Today? It was this shirt:
Why yes, that is my son holding it. Josh made a deal long ago with the pastor, and they both benefit greatly from it. Pastor gets the gear, Josh inherits it after the service. I'm hoping that I can get the Steelers chocolate bar that he had today. Pastor is that dedicated, man. He won't even eat foods bearing the black and gold.
Which reminds me - I made black and gold brownies for the kids. While I dearly love cream cheese brownies I refrain from making them because it isn't like brownies aren't fattening enough on their own. I reserve my cream cheese brownies love for special occasions - like when someone else makes them. So since the brownies looked different than normal the kids deemed them nasty, and possibly poisoned, and refused to eat them. I did not push the issue - it's that much more for me. Of course if I eat the whole pan myself my hips will be as big as the entire Steelers Nation. If I eat them when I'm on the elliptical, does that negate the calories?
And how 'bout them Steelers? My boys were rejoicing. Luke kept walking around chanting in a very stunned voice, "Thank You, Jesus, thank You, Lord." It was totally amazing.

Your poor Pastor. All of his dreams will be in black and gold tonight. Too bad my kids aren't afraid of anything with cream cheese in it.
I absolutely refuse to discuss the game with either you or Burgh. Once again, the teenager came home moody, sulky, and in stunned disbelief because of this game.
I have a serious beef to take up with the NFL gods.
Even here in Eagles country we have die hard Steelers fans. Our neighbor has a ginormous Terrible Towel that he hangs on his door whenever the Steelers play.
We saw lots of jerseys at church, and Rob and I both rooted for the PA team.
I have never watched a whole Superbowl, but I will admit that both Rob and I were on our feet, cheering, saying "Oh no he didn't!" when Holmes caught that pass in the endzone with 35 seconds left to play.
Great game!
I could give you my address and I will be happy to help you finish off the brownies :) That was a fun game to watch!
Being from Cleveland . . . I dont' find the shirt too funny!
The brownies look fabulous though!
listen, making the cake burns calories too, so i think you're good
LOL! I love that you razz your pastor...I guess you better hope he doesn't have a direct line to God, huh? ;)
Those brownies look yummy...even if they are the wrong color!
That shirt is priceless. My brother is a Bears fan and I am Colts, so I may have to copy and insert Chicago for Cleveland and put Indianapolis on the sign. LOVE IT!
My theory is that EVERYTHING tastes better with cream cheese.
...and brownies are only like my 2nd favorite thing on this planet, 2nd ONLY to chocolate chip cookies.
I guess I'm gonna have to come up there and help you with that pan. BUMMER!
Missed you Saturday!
Love the shirt - I think Cleveland is the COLDEST place on the planet, course I was there in January and the hotel was by the lake. Mistake by the Lake isn't that what they call it?
Yea Steelers!
Poor pastor. He got a bit of a ribbing, didn't he? I think, perhaps your house rejoiced last night?
Steelers fans are devoted for sure! We all wore out Steelers gear to church today and Gary wore his usual dress shirt/tie combo for work today. Only, his Steelers shirt was on top of it. We Steelers fans will find anyway to show off that team pride! Woo hoo on getting number 6 for Steeler Nation!
That last muttering of Luke's is hysterical. The last quarter was amazing and I found myself rooting for the Cardinals there at the end. It was an amazing game.
So Pastor considers eating the black and gold food like eating that offered to idols? :)
Those brownies look hawt ... and I don't even like brownies. I know, I'm a freak.
I think your kids are nuts! Those brownies look awesome! They must have lost too many brain cells cheering for their team.
I already forgot who won the game! Your brownies look awesome! I made cheesecake. I wish I would have thought to color it. Cream cheese in any color is great (unless it has fur on it.)
I'm not a football fan. But those brownies look super yummy!!
you can make those for ME any time!
Hee hee hee! I love that the poor pastor is so tormented. Coming from the Catholic church where your priests are assigned, it's still so weird to me that pastors are hired, but I'm getting used to it! How was that candy bar? And YUM to the brownies!
