What Would You Do?

As the mother of a child with a disability that clearly sets him apart from his peers (and will only get worse as he gets older) I dread the future. How will he be received? How will people treat him when I'm not there to hold his hand and draw my sword to ward off the evil? I have to say that I've been amazed at the love and kindness that's followed Micah everywhere that he's been. I'm astounded at how well received he is, at how accepted he is. But what about his future? Weirdly, that depends more on you than it does on me. Watch this video, and think about what your reaction would be. Or maybe what it should be.

Thank you. It's tough to speak up. But I don't think I've been faced with something this blatant. This is pure nasty.

It is easier to respond to a teenager than to an adult. I wouldn't go as far as slugging, but would probably make a nasty remark.

Thank you. I'll be more aware and vocal from now on.

Thank you for sharing this. Val and I have been watching this series for a few weeks and each segment is very compelling but this one brings tears to my eyes and lights a fire in my heart.

I'd NEVER let anyone be treated that way and I promise you, I'd never be silent.

You hug that boy for us.

I have a special-needs son who will be 28 years old in a couple of weeks. He's never fit in, EVER. I pray that he will find a kind soul who will be his friend because he has none -- except those few of us who love him, and he's shoved us out of his life.

I remember, EVERY SINGLE DAY OF MY LIFE that everyone of us deserves to have a friend and someone to have his or her's back.

Speak up to those nasty people in the world. I promise, you'll feel better about yourself afterward.

I saw this when it aired. It made me sad, and frustrated, and hurt, and angry. What was even worse was when they talked about Elvis who worked at the store for years and often encountered this kind of stuff. I thought (hoped) it was an over exaggeration, but apparently not.
