We Are Plus Two

Becky has wanted a cat for a while now. She was on a cat craze way back when she was 4, and then we got a dog. She said the dog would eat the cat and chose not to get one, even though I gave her the green flag to do so. It took her a whole year after that to declare that she wanted a cat again, so we got her one for her 5th birthday. Daisy was a black cat who counter surfed, ate our bread when we were sleeping, and generally found new and fun ways to irk me. She sneaked out the door one day and never did come back. I wasn't exactly sad to see her go. I loathe the litter box chore. It doesn't help that I wasn't overly fond of the reason we had the litter box in the first place.

So Becky has been asking for a cat for the past year. Again. We're all about the, "when you get your own place, you can have all the cats you want. You can be the crazy cat lady for all I care. But not in this house." She's not happy with our answer. I had suggested that we get outdoor cats as a compromise, and Sam was as adamantly opposed to cats of any living condition as I was to indoor cats.

A friend of mine had some stray cats show up on her doorstep a few months back. She fed them and loved them and petted them and named them Macklemore and Percy. They rewarded her by leaving dead things on her walk and scratching a hole in her husband's Mustang cover. While both things are just normal cat behavior, the latter was not very appreciated. In fact, her husband declared that it was time for them to just find a new home. So I rehomed the strays to our 4 acres. It was a win-win-win, really. The cats would have a home, the Mustang cover would be safe, and our chipmunk, mouse, and rabbit population could definitely stand to thin down permanently.

This was all on the down-low, though. I mean, Sam would find out of course, but there's the right timing and everything. And then Becky posted on Twitter that she had cats. Yeah! And Josh, on the missions trip with his dad, read her Twitter post. And now the cat is out of the bag.

Ha! The cat's out of the bag.

It's been awhile since I've visited...I blame it on Google Reader going away. Good to say hello again though!

Seriously, if the cats are neutered, there is very little to worry about with them outside. Especially with a nice big place like yours. I think they will be plenty busy chasing all the critters.
