But I Look Good Doing It

No, not doing that. Get your mind out of the gutter. I'm talking about the gym.

So I've been at the gym for nearly a month now. I feel so good about myself. Know what I have to show for it? A few new pair of gym pants. That's it. Remember those 2 pounds that I so proudly lost the first week? They found me.

Yes, I managed to gain weight while working out several times a week. I'm telling myself that I'm building muscle underneath all these layers of fat, and some day I may even get to see them. We all know that muscle weighs more than fat. But this is not helping me much. Two pounds of muscle? After nearly a month of working up a sweat I should have a few more pounds than that. Maybe I should eat more chocolate.

So in an all-out effort to actually lose weight once again, I added more weights to my workouts. My muscles are thanking me, as only muscles can. I've heard that muscle eats fat, and under that premise my muscles will never go hungry. I'm trying to help them in their herculean marathon eating fest by cutting back on sugar and carbs. I hate dieting. There's a reason the first three letters are D-I-E. If the workouts don't kill you, the lack of food will. I ask you, how is one expected to live without a steady diet of Starbucks? I've cut back from my precious peppermint mocha to the skinny lattes. The taste difference is vast. If it weren't for silly people watching their weight those things wouldn't be selling. And yet, I've had to cut those out. I'm getting desperate here, people!

Know what I did the other night after coming home from the gym all stiff and sore? I moved bedroom furniture. And then I moved it back because I didn't like it. So not only am I working out at the gym, I'm working out at home. And the dog with the broken pelvis? He weighs 45 pounds. He's feeling a bit better and decided to make a jail break. I had to carry him back to confinement. I'm not sitting at the computer all day (just most of it) so I'm really not sure why my sweat isn't producing more than an odor.

I'm still going with "muscle weighs more than fat."

At least you are doing something. Good for you... it will come off.

I need some inspiration. And so, I will cross my fingers and hope that 2 pounds fall off of you in the next week and then you can post about that.

And then I wil start working out. Okay?

Are you eating enough? With all that working out maybe your body is holding on to the extra...

Have you tried measuring yourself? Seeing how many inches are around your hips, stomach, chest, etc. Seeing those numbers go down is a better tell than how many pounds you lose.

Yikes. I got sore arms just reading what you're up too. I'm trying to lose some weight too, and having about as much success as you. Sigh.

Girl, I worked out religiously for two years at least 4 days a week. Lifted, did the Nautalis circuit, and ran 3-5 miles every time. I did this until I injured my back severely and had to be in bed for two weeks and was told by the doctor that I could only walk, not jog for at least 6 months. By the time I was off the couch, all that hard work was down the drain...I was in bad shape. Anyway, that's not the moral of the story. The moral is that I ate healthy that whole time and was in excellent shape, but never saw my muscles. (I know they were there because I used them all the time!) My brother, on the other hand, has always had 6 pack abs and a body-builder's physique even when he doesn't work out. My husband could work out 4-6 hours A DAY and never look like him. I'm convinced that either you are born with that gene or you aren't. At least that's what I tell myself. Keep it up! You are healthier and you're prolonging your life. That's what really matters!

It will start falling off, just wait and see. I have been trying to loose this baby fat for six months now and it's killing me! I am just not getting anywhere!!

Sniz - you're right. And I just don't have the gene.

Andrea - I'm trying to lose my baby fat, too. My baby will be 5 next week.

keep working out and remember everything in moderation is key (when you deprive yourself you will regret it in the long run)

try keeping a food diary and eat carbs early... that's my logic anyway

good luck and remember you are doing your body good just by working out

Don't give up! I look at the skinny people and how they eat for motivation, yet that peppermint mocha is NOW calling my name! Thanks a lot:)

I managed to gain mucho weight while working out at the Y for 4 months. You cannot exercise enough to compensate for all the crap that is available to shove into our greedy little mouths. Believe me, I know.

Hi--thanks for visiting my blog! I recognize some of the people on your sidebar. And stick with the working out...it'll come off. Don't go by weight, go by inches or how your clothes fit. Yay, you, for going to the gym!!!

Keep posting these kinds of stories, I count them as a workout for me. Just reading them makes my muscles ache!

BTW, got the ladybug last night. Adorable, as always. You rock!

I'm so impressed that you've been working out! Even if it doesn't show on the scale, I'm sure it is making a difference. I'm with those saying to judge by how your clothes fit. And don't give up!

Besides losing weight, you're getting those endorphins going and getting healthier. That's fantastic!

I'm proud of you! Going to the gym is hard. Keep up the good work.

Ammon always tells me it isn't weight that matters, judge your results by size. It always makes me feel better!

Those commercials of people losing weight quickly are so frustrating. I gave up working out when I saw no results. I think when you don't have a long way to go it's harder to see results and stay motivated. But remember, it's not just weight, it's a healthy heart!

I'm with you though, muscle weighs more than fat!

I give you credit for sticking with it! You crack me up!

Hang in there--it takes some time. And you are being healthy just by exercising. Of course, I know that doesn't help any!

Yeah, those skinny lattes taste like death.

I was so happy to be at my pre-pregnancy weight, but I'm so NOT anywhere near my pre-pregnancy shape. I think half of my boobs fell down into my belly and are determined to stay there. I suppose I could try some crunches and a little bit of cardio or something, but that just sounds too much like work. Plus, I'm already doing a lot of 20-lb baby curls! :D
But good for you for sticking with the gym so long! And I agree, try measuring your waist, hips, arms, etc. You might see more results than on the scale.

Muscle DOES weigh more than fat. Good for you for hitting the gym!

Before this last flu bug I was being really good at getting to the gym. I have been running more and lifting more over the last month.

Then I got on the scale. I GAINED 3 pounds! And I had been the same weight for over a year.

Yeah, that muscle/fat thing doesn't fly with me either.

I'm with you, girl. It's all muscle, all muscle! I'm gonna have to follow your example and start moving.
