Darn You, Murphy!

After 13 years of being a SAHM, today I joined the forces of the working world. Sort of. I'm becoming one of them, living at the gym. I have volunteered to babysit 3 hours a week in exchange for gym time for both my husband and I. Tuesday mornings are my time to put on the hat of a working mother and go earn a gym membership. But, today being the very first day of my new job and my new life, Murphy decided to rear his ugly head.

*Becky woke up in the night with a fever, and threw up on the bathroom floor. She stayed home from school today.

*Dog that got hit on the road last evening (and was totally fine) has not stood up all night. He had a vet appointment this afternoon. After x-rays, it was determined that he has a broken pelvis.

*Micah, who was fevery all weekend and is now just reduced to a bad cold needs checked for possible lung congestion. He's negative for both pneumonia and strep, but it's highly recommended that his tonsils be removed. I've been thinking this myself. He has an appointement with the ENT next month and it'll be addressed.

*Josh woke up today with sore throat, stomach ache and dizziness. He was home from school.

*Luke was up all night barking into his pillow and is exhibition signs of impending sinus infection or oncoming flu. He also was home from school.

So I had 3 kids home sick, alone, today while I took Micah to the gym with me to babysit. I ran home, ate lunch, checked temperatures, administered meds and ran the dog to the vet. From there I ran Micah to the doctor. I feel like crap myself and am sore from the gym.

Drat you, Murphy. Next week's venture into the work world has got to be much better. Because I shudder to think how it could be worse.

oh my! What are the odds that all your kids would be sick on the exact day you had to work?! I am so sorry! I hope everyone is feeling better soon and next babysitting at the gym day goes better!

Wow! I hope everyone gets better soon. You are really smart to trade services, those gym memberships can be expensive!

Makes you wonder how women with young kids ever manage to work outside their homes...you must need a really good support system of nannies, relatives, husbands with lots of leave available...

Oh my - you're so right. Murphy and his stupid law always rears his head at the worst of times. Here's hoping everyone feels better soon.

And I'm partial to anything canine, so I sincerely hope your dog is on the mend too. I'm wondering if he'll need surgery?

BEST OF WISHES!

Ok. Speaking as a Murphy (honest engine... that was my maiden name!), I feel its only fair to set the record straight on a couple of things....

One: Its not all Murphys who are contrary and difficult. It all stems from the black sheep of the family... Uncle Lou.

Two: Most of us Murphys are fairly well practiced at staying as far away as possible from houses with more than one sick child. Lord knows we don't want sick kids of our own!

However, when I next see Uncle Lou, I will be sure to kick him right in the shins for you. Hard.

Hope your little corral feels better soon! :)

Update - the kids are all still sick (because we didn't manage to get the 24 hour variety of flu), I think I may be coming down with a mild case of it myself, and the dog will heal just fine on Bayer aspirin and rest. It's gonna be another day in the life here.

I totally blame myself for this. I was bragging to Burgh how we normally have one month in the year where we all get sick (which was toally January), and the rest of the year we're quite healthy, really. I had to go and open my big mouth.

That darn Murphy! It seems he listens everywhere, and whenever you feel secure, he pops up. This past December, I commented to my husband that here it was Christmas morning and none of us had been sick yet. That afternoon my toddler throws up.

Sending good wishes and a speedy recovery for all! God bless.

Wow, that sounds so awful! I was up all night with my daughter who had an intense case of the stomach flu. It's no fun! But it really stinks when they are all sick at the same time!

Goodness, you guys need a break from all of this sickness!! I hope y'all feel better soon.

There are times like that when I say it is just not ment to be. "I am not ment to be skinny!" I am not ment to work". I hate Murphy! He is horrible and needs to leave mothers alone who want a gym membership and want to become healthy and skinny!! I will ground him for you, if you want.

I thought I told your kids to stop getting sick? I guess that just goes to show they don't listen to me. As if I didn't already have enough people that ignore what I say . . .

Murphy, shmurphy. I bragged about never getting sick and I'm still not sick. Nor will I be, because I don't get sick. Period. If I see Murphy, I'll be sure to give him a good swift kick for you.

Feel better soon, each and every one of you (including the pup, but especially you).

Oh, you're having fun. And why aren't y'all listening to Baby Burgh's Mom? :) Get better, all of you!

Good grief! You're spreading yourself thin.....I hope you take care of and ward off the germs from yourself too!

If you were still homeschooling they wouldn't be this sick! Just tell them they did it to themselves. I hope all gets better before the weekend.

I think that was a smart decision to work at the gym. You're already there, so you might as well exercise.

Do not tempt the Murphy. He'll bite you in the tooshy all the more as you poked fun. Sorry you've all got the crap. NOT fun. The baby & I both have sinus infections.

And, if you want ideas to take away my money, I'm willing to tell you what you can add to the store.
