Ignorance Is Bliss

Know what I hate? All those studies that they conduct. You know the ones. Where they test the bacteria content in ice at restaurants and compare it to water in public toilets. Or the germ count on lemon wedges they put in your drink.

Know how many confirmed cases of death or disease they actually have linked to these things? Probably none.

Know how many people thought of this kind of stuff before the study was conducted? Probably only the person who did the study.

Know what your study has done since it's been published? Freaked out innocent people everywhere who didn't need to know these things.

Come on. In reality we know there are germs on our lemon wedges. We were so good at pushing that to the back of our minds because really, there are germs everywhere. Where's the study that says how many germs are on our own hands before we touch that lemon? And now we have to spaz out every time we see that lemon hanging on the edge of our glass the next time we go out to eat.

Please. Just let us go back to a life of ignorance and stop these random tests. We don't need to know about what germs are where.

And don't even get me started on the whole tap water thing. I could rant for days on that piece of idiocy.

I'm so with you, on this one! But, seeing that study, I can't have lemons in my drink. Believe me, I work in a restaurant- you really probably don't want them in your's either. I wish I could go back to the day, when I could blissfully squeeze 5 lemons in my water, for the cheap woman's lemonade.

The way I look at it something is going to kill me sooner or later. It may be germs on my lemon or the margarita I'm imbibe...at least I plan on having a heck of a time on my way out!! ;)

It's all so sensationalized. It drives me crazy. I just don't read those types of stories anymore.

My husband and I joke when commercials for the news comes on... "If you don't watch our program, you WILL DIE because you won't know what has been KILLING YOU all along!" or something to that effect.

I agree! I call it building up antibodies. If you sterilize everything, THEN you start to get sick. Life is messy, deal!

I'm with you!! I'm good not knowing this stuff. Lemons in my drink still make me happy and I am still alive... :)

I"m with you on this one! there are a lot of things that seem to get people worked up over next to nothing... come on we have to live our lives somehow

I agree to the germs part. There are germs everywhere, and they're supposed to be! Bacteria has it's place in this world. What DOES gross me out is the people who don't wash their hands after they go to the bathroom, then they take candy from the candy dish in a restaurant and leave their grossies in the bowl!

I am also tired of all the e-mails telling me to be afrais of everything under the sun. DOn't the people who conduct these studies have better things to do with their time? Maybe they should try blogging. :)

And why don't they broadcast the studies which have found that anti-bacterial soaps and hand sanitizers are decreasing our bodies' immunities to bacteria and infection? That's the study that should be plastered all over the place.

I am laughing!!! Really hard! This is so funny! We are such a nation of germ phobs! I don't have any antibacterial stuff in my house or my car. Aren't I a rebel?!

Hear, hear. Those are my sentiments exactly. I'm a lemon-wedge-in-my-restaurant-water FANATIC, so I was quite irritated by this study as well. I continued to belabor it until a friend pointed out that lemons are antibacterial. Whew! Crisis averted.

I just heard of the tap water. Ugh!

I too get so tired of hearing about germs. My sis lived in Africa for three years and infants very covered in filth and flies.

Amen. Well said!

I love me some Thackery. Tis folly to be wise. And, I'm with you. I just don't want to know. At all.

Amen! I much prefer living in ignorance than knowing all the frightening details!!

Thanks for coming by Karen - I have missed you. Hope you are well. See you soon. Kellan

I am so with you on this. I mean why do we assume that a germ or bacteria is necessarily bad when there are so many billions of them on everyday things - maybe that menas they're a natural part of our environment!

This whole society is way too germ phobic. That's part of why we have all these "super bugs" now that can't be killed by regular bacteria.

Hey, a little dirt (or germs) never hurt anyone!

I like that people don't want lemons in their water anymore. Saves me the time of looking for some tongs, so I can actually pick it up to put it in the glass.

that's why I have a filthy house...to bolster up my kids' immune systems so something trivial like dirty lemons doesn't kill them. :)
