Just A Little Bit Of This, And A Little Bit Of That

So I was just talking to someone the other day, saying that we'd managed to get through one whole entire week without hatching any new illnesses. This was a milestone for us in '08. Sad, really. I said that we were actually running out of new illnesses to contract, so we should be good for a while. After some thought it was mentioned that we haven't had pink eye. That's true we hadn't. And we were grateful.

I was home from speech therapy all of 10 minutes today when the school nurse called. It seems that Luke has pink eye.

I can only blame myself for opening my big, fat mouth.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After eating half a box of Samoas, compliments of the Girl Scouts of America, I woke up this morning weighing a pound less. This could be a breakthrough bigger than anything in dieting history.
I was telling a friend of mine at the gym and she laughed as she told me the same story. Same cookies, too! Only she lost 2 pounds. AND Suburban Correspondent over at The More, The Messier managed to lose 2 pounds eating Girl Scout cookies.
If I'd known this a while back I'd have been eating cookies at the onset of the diet. Sign me up for the Girl Scouts!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Luke was helping me make a cake in the kitchen. Daddy was trying to fix the DVD player that had a little too much of Micah. I had the easier job, by far.

Daddy went upstairs to retrieve the spare player from the kids room. What should he find, but a room so messy that the remote could not be found.

Daddy: "Look at this room! What's wrong with you kids?! Get it cleaned up right now!"

Luke: "He's using your words."

Ouch.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Micah learned a new annoyance tactic. Forget the drone. He's gritting his teeth with a vengeance. Besides it being the closest the human body can come to manufacturing the nails-on-the-chalkboard sound, I fear it'll ruin his teeth. I talked to his speech therapist and the pediatrician today about it and they both were clueless as to how to stop it. Any suggestions?
Yikes on the pink eye...not because it is scary or terrible, but because it is another illness for your family. I hate when I jinx myself like that.
Uhm, the teeth grinding, not sure! Sorry! We did this once at school for a student who was orally fixated/stimulated- he would chew on pencils to the point where he was actually eating the pencil and would down a new pencil each day. When we saw that he began doing this we gave him a piece of gum or a piece of hard candy to suck on. That way he was able to get the oral stim without eating a pencil. I have no idea if this would help you or not, but it is all I have!
sorry about the pink eye... hope no one else catches it. as far as stopping the grinding, what about a mouth guard for short term use. that is what they suggest when you grind them at night.
I'm staying mum on he illness issue.
As for the teeth, when I have babies to this I give them a chew toy to distract them. I think there are chew sticks for older kids. I've not really needed to check into anything like that. Have you heard of Superduper Publications? They have a lot of special need toys and items and they have free shipping. They have an extensive catalog and I think they have something to for this. Good luck! If you do find something that helps, I hope you'll share it with us!
teeth grinding. I am one of those people. Not so much now as when I was younger. I used to do it in my sleep really bad. Someone (the dentist?) made a mouthguard thing and I had to wear it. I want to say it was out of silicone, and I would grind my teeth on that. But to be honest I don't remember. I do remember being woken up by my mom whenver we were on vacation, because I would wake up everyone in the hotel room with my grinding. My eye teeth are flat, and you can see how nicely all of my teeth fit together from me grinding so much. I don't know if Micah would wear a mouth guard thing though. I was a teen and hated to wear it. (and alot of time I wouldn't wear it)
Pink eye. Ugh. I hate pink eye.
Oh Karen, pink eye, really? You guys really need a break already! I hope it stops with Luke.
Lol, on using your words. Isn't that just what you want to hear?
Talk to Micah's dentist, they will most likely give him a bite guard or you can even buy them OTC at a drugstore these days. Hope has been doing that lately since she's been breathing through her mouth, it drives me CRAZY!!
Mmmmm...I love me those Samoas. Now I have even more reason to love them (and eat them!). :)
He definitely needs something to bite on during the day. I think a friend of mine had a son with this problem, and some medical professional had a solution. Google it. Or get another opinion from another doctor.
Bite guard if he is doing it in his sleep.
Alexis grinds her teeth. I give her a frozen teething ring, but Micah might not be game for that.
I hadn't thought about it, but I've gone through a box of GS cookies this week and lost 2 pounds. That's no coincidence. Now I just need to find me a table of Girl Scouts so I can get more cookies.
STOP IT WITH THE ILLNESSES! I mean it, buster. Pink eye is no fun, at least not when your husband has it.
I feel out of the loop...I have never had Samoas:(
I can't believe there are people out there who haven't ever had SAMOES!!! Those are my absolute favorites!! I need to eat some. My sister found a recipie for homemade ones!!
As for teeth grinding, a lot of kids do it. I have a mouth gaurd that I have to help protect my teeth from it. You could give him muscle relaxer and that will stop it, but then he might act like a little drowsy all day. I don't think there is anything you can do! Good luck!
Running out to buy me some girl scout cookies ASAP. Thanks for the memo. :)
Pink eye and grinding teeth!?!?! Can I just focus on something easier like SAMOA'S!?!?!
Seriously though, good luck with the pink eye, and for the teeth grinding maybe try google.
I'm of no help, sorry!
Thanks for the prayers for our baby - we hare hoping for the best, obviously, and we appreciate all the prayers! See you soon. Kellan
ugh! hate pink eye...especially hate it when partner of Family Doctor gives you eye drops that contain an antibiotic that you're allergic to. Talk about some kind of fun! So I hope it stops at Luke. We did find that the homeopathic pink-eye drops (usually on the top shelf in the eye drop aisle? can't remember the brand name...) worked REALLY well with relieving the itching and burning.
Oh, and to give you a little shout-out, I got my stuff last night and it all turned out so wonderful!!!! I cannot believe how great everything was...I brought it into the office today and wowwed a couple co-workers! Check your email. ;)
Awww, pink eye! That's no fun! We are getting over being sick and I hope nothing else comes our way. Glad I found your blog.
I remember having pink eye quite a few times as a kid, but mine have never had it. Now that they're in school, I keep expecting it. Still no luck. :) I don't remember it being painful, which is nice, just annoying as all get out. Actually, I always thought it was really cool to wake up to crusty eyes. Weird.
Grinding? I did it in my sleep for years and wore one of those doctor's night guards for awhile. If it didn't splinter so, the pencil would be a great idea. Peppermints? Then you have the added bonus of fresh breath. :D
That's it. The Girl Scout cookies that I have stashed away are coming out...I'd love to lose a few pounds!
So sorry about Luke and the pink eye! That really sucks. Funny about what Luke said though. Ouch, but funny.
The Girl Scout cookies diet must be because they don't have high fructose corn syrup! I've been cutting out the HFCSs, but haven't had to give up my Samoas! So that must be why.
I clench my jaw/grind my teeth at night and wear a night guard, as others have mentioned. Could something like that work? Would he even leave it in? Talk to your dentist!
Don't trust the weight loss with the cookies. It's how they lure you in.
And you are pretty much responsible for the pink eye. I wish I could tell you you're not.
I need to find me some girl scouts, stat! A cookie diet? I'm all over that :)
Sorry to hear about the pink eye...hope everyone else steers clear.
