All In A Year's Work

I love the end of the school year. All the major projects the kids have been working on finally find their way home and I get to see what they've been doing.

Luke, just finishing first grade, made a book All About Me. Only it's about him, as it should be. Each page in this fun book shares a little bit about him and his family.

There are some things that even I learned about my boy.

* He thinks the best thing about our family is that "we go to all sortes of states in the united states." This must have just happened since our vacation to Arizona because the poor boy has only been to Ohio and Maryland before that. He's the deprived one.

* His favorite memory of 1st grade is "learning about the amason rain forest." Is that the son of the Amazon?

* His favorite song is "burning in the fire." For those of you who haven't heard this, it's best sung by Johnny Cash. I think the original title was Burning Ring of Fire. And incidentally, that's the only line that Luke knows, yet he still messed it up. I love that boy.

Of course this could also be a tribute to his mother's arsonistic ways.

* His favorite hobby is "digging." I can attest to that. He's got a very large hole in the back yard that I fear he'll bury his family in someday.

* When he grows up he wants to be a "rode pathere." Based on the picture and phoenemic spelling, I'm guessing his lifelong ambition is to pave roads. That's aspiration right there. Only in America.

* In 1st grade he learned to "tie a knoght." But obviously didn't learn to spell one.

* Next year in 2nd grade he hopes to learn to "save my money." Did I mention that I love that boy? He'll probably need to start saving now if he wants any kind of retirement from that paving job.

It's nice to know that my kids are getting the kind of quality education you'd expect in America.

Funny how he's never photographed without sporting a fair amount of dirt. I guess that means he's a boy.

what a great look back on the year and your dear boy. Wow! A second grader next year. Dirt is healthy- or at least that is what I tell myself!

I love it! That is too sweet and precious. Do you have a memory box to store things like this in for when they get older?

So what you're telling me is that this construction obsession won't go away anytime soon? Oh, boy. This is going to be a bumpy ride...I may need that paver of yours.

What a wonderful book! About the travel to states, if you think like a boy, every state you drive through is one that you've been to LOL.

If you want to get a picture of a clean boy, you need to give them a bath, immediately put them to bed, let them fall asleep, THEN take the picture LOL.

It must be the steam roller that has his attention. Either that or holding a stop sign really looks cool and important.

Aren't you thrilled that his teacher had him do this project? It's about as sweet as life gets.

Luke is awesome. That is all.

Loved his answers! And is that dirt around his mouth or has someone been sneaking some chocolate on the sly?

A "knoght," eh? I actually think it's pretty good that he spelled it that way . . . I mean . . sure, it's wrong and a lot harder than the right way. However, it shows some mastery of spelling principles such as the silent "k" and the silent "gh" before the "t" we have in lots of words in English like "thought." Good for him!

My son can't go outside without getting dirty. It is impossible!

Funny stuff!! How cute are his answers -- maybe he could come and pave the road near my house because it has about 17 potholes!!

Love the dirt shot. :) Was he eating mud pies?

Luke and everything about him is just awesome.

Isaac wanted to be an icecream man in the first grade. Luke could pave the roads while Isaac follows behind playing scary circus music and handing out fudge bars...

we all know you keep Luke around for entertainment...even if he's got a family-size hole in the backyard. :)

Yeah for Luke! What a great kid. Might want some extra time studying spelling, but I'm not one to talk. :-)
