So I Was At The Vet Again...

We took Tinker to the vet today for an exam and a rabies vaccine. You know I'm on a first name basis with everyone in there, don't you? Well, I am.

The receptionists greet me by name and ask how the puppies are doing. They inquire about the mama that had the c-section. The nurses ask how the Scottie's allergy meds are holding out. And do we need any more medicated shampoo for her?

The doctor asked today if we'd had any luck with the spaniels we had in a few days ago. I was thrilled to tell him that we did, indeed, get lucky. Or they did. Or maybe we're both considered lucky in that situation. He has every confidence that we'll have a litter of fine puppies and couldn't be more happy for us than if I'd announced that I was pregnant.

(Which I'm not by the way.)

And while every visit to the vet not only is a social exercise for both people and dogs alike, it's also a learning environment. I'm not sure if my office informs all their patients as well as they do me, but I get the low-down nitty-gritty on everything I'm in for. The last visit I learned how to do in-vitro fertilization on dogs at home. (Because isn't that what everyone wants to know?)

Today? I learned that dogs wear tampons. And our new baby needs them. Apparently her oversized ears are lazy and need help learning to stand before the cartilage hardens and they'll never be able to. They should be standing on their own but lucky us, we got a dog with lazy ears. It was recommended that we place a tampon in her ear and tape around it to hold the ear in the upright position until it learns to stand all on it's own.

Becky couldn't wait to get her new puppy. She was going to take it everywhere with her. Somehow I don't think she'll be wanting to take a tampon-wearing dog very many places. But on a positive note, we'll always be prepared for emergencies.

(And please ignore that mess of dog hair between the kennels. I do vacuum. Daily. But post partum shedding in the corgis is that bad overnight. Seriously.)

Aw, the new pup is so cute!

Congrats on the friskiness :) Hopefully some babies will be coming in 9 weeks!

My mom has a corgi so I know what the crazy shedding is like. I can only imagine how bad it would be postpartum! Who would think those dogs could have SO much hair hidden?

Are you praying Luke becomes a vet or what?! You live up there. And tampons? That is so a first for me.

Oh, he is so so cute! I don't think it'll matter what's behind his ear.

Love the wedding story too.

Oh, if you're bored any time soon can you come by my blog and tell me what the flower is on there? I think of all my bloggy friends, you may be my best gardening hope.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

OMG, that is a cute dog but man, tampons in his ears? That truly should belong on "What Not To Wear!"

Who knew that tampons had such alternate uses? Interesting. I wonder who first figured that one out? Did the tampon manufacturers think of this? Is it listed on the package as an alternate use? Are there departments of people researching other things to do with tampons? Makes you think!

Who knew tampons had more than one use?

That puppy is just too cute!!

Oh, the stories your children must tell at school!

And here I thought you were a bit lucky for only having to buy feminine products for 1 girl (though they are certainly a bit cheaper than diapers!)

wow, that is funny about the tampons. They have more uses than dryer sheets, I swear!

I suppose this could trigger some interesting conversations with your boys.

I'd rather like to have tampons behind my ears ... but I think people would think I was deranged.

I'd heard about the tampons. I'd asked about them for the Hound after we'd discovered her ear problem.
She's supposed to be a perk-eared dog and someone (for no apparent reason) pasted her ears like you would on one of the wirehaired terrier breeds.
Apparently by then it was too late and she'll always have that huge fault.

Tinkerbell is such a doll-baby!

The first time I met my husband's family, I also met the Great Dane with the tampons in her ears. Someone had done a poor job clipping her ears. They never did stand up right, but it was the fault of the clipper and my crazy MIL. Weird, huh, using tampons? Have fun going out in public!

Seriously? Can you tell me if the dog leaves the tampons her her ears? Cause, dude, I cannot picture any dog not scratching them right out. Well, except maybe with one of those big funnel collars on. That might work.
Glad I stopped by. I'll be back!

I kinda like her floppy ears! And I have yet to see becky with her new pup :). I feel like I live at the vets office too. Somehow I never leave there. If it's not horses it's the dogs.

Ok, blogger wasn't letting my comment last night, so I'll try now!

Are you sure that there isn't an alternative to tampons that you could use? Your vet knows you so well... are you sure he isn't just messing with you to see what you'll do?

OMG is she cuuuuuttteee!

have I shared that I heart all things Boston Terrier? Even my Visa has a couple Bostons on it! Minus tampons, but still. I also have Boston Terrier collector's plates on my wall and tried (unsuccessfully) to get a beautiful resin Boston Terrier planter for my front porch (complete with seasonal wreaths!!!). SQUEEEEE!

all I'm sayin' is don't be surprised to find her and her tampax missing.

What a cutie pie!!! I love the little flop to her ears, though, but I'm a sucker for floppy ears. Just ask my beagle.

And as a matter of fact, we are also on first name basis with everyone at the vet. Between the cat's heart condition and monthly medicine they make up and the dog with her serious allergies and lumps that need removal (one was cancerous), we are in there quite a bit!
