Winners and Losers

So last evening we spent a few hours in the x-ray department getting films of the inside of Josh's foot. He hobbled home weary and hurting, but the good news was that it wasn't broken.

How did he hurt it, you might ask? He was playing football in gym class. While this could be all sorts of bragging rights to most boys (of any age), this is Josh we're talking about.

Josh is my son. The poor, poor boy. He has his build modeled after me, he inherited every last ounce of my athletic non-ability, and his stature is certainly not that of his tallish father. It's the athletic non-ability that worries me the most. He tripped over someone's foot and fell while playing football. Yep. So much for going down in a blaze of glory, taking one for the team, or any other fabulous legend to pass on to the kids and grandkids when someday this old injury flares up with weather changes.

*Sigh.*

Today we heard the results of the MRI. The doctor was quite amazed at the carnage wrought inside the foot of an 11 year old boy. He was especially shocked that it happened from tripping. Josh will have a story to tell alright. Remember that time I was playing football and tripped over someone's foot? And how the bone was bruised and the muscles across the top of my foot tore? Wow. That was painful.

Yeh, that's one that he'll want repeated for generations to come. Poor kid. At least I'm a girl and if I'm not athletic it's okay. Sorry, Bud. The legacy of Karen the Klutz lives on.

********************

And I know you've all been waiting for just this moment when I get to give away another shirt. I love living generously. So without further ado, the random number generator randomly generated the number 9. See:

Random Integer Generator
Here are your random numbers:

9
Timestamp: 2008-09-12 20:53:41 UTC

And by the way, do you know how much fun a random number generator is? Good lands, I randomly generated numbers over and over and over and over... *sigh* I love numbers. I know, I'm a geek.

Oh, wait. I was so overcome with that love of numbers thing that I forgot to translate for you. Sorry about that. Number 9 is JennyH at Life With 4 Kiddos. Congrats!!!! Go here and check out with the shirt that you want. Let me a note with the size you need, but don't pay. See how easy that is? Also? Mention that you're the winner because non-payers in my store generally don't get their shirts in a timely fashion.

You know ... when I was in 4th grade, I was Willy Wonka in the class play "CHarlie and the Chocolate Factory." Yeah - I was a tranny even then. Anyhoo, the day before the show, I fell down the stairs carrying paint for the set and: 1) painted the whole stairwell; and 2) destroyed my foot. But the show had to go on - I still went on the next day. Wearing this stupid boot thing to support my gimp ankle.

Anyway, he'll grow out of his klutziness, right? Wait - no - I'm still a klutz.

Ah, well. At least it wasn't his OWN foot?!

Oh yeah! JennyH won! We live in the same town ... and yet ... I've never met her in person. How sad is that? I'm glad she won though. Now there's two Rocking Pony shirts in our school district!

Wow, I hope Josh's foot feels better soon. A bruise bone and a torn muscle...the poor boy!

I cannot say a word. I am the genius that slipped off a curb and broker her foot a few years ago.

Here's something Josh can hold onto for hope....

When Jock (my super gifted athlete) was 9, he was playing in soccer in the backyard. Barefoot. In the wet grass. With a basketball. In the dark. When he went to kick the ball, his toes got caught in the grass, and stopped before they actually hit the ball.

Thinking he was exaggerating the entire thing, we didn't take him to the doctor until the next day, when his foot was a lot more swollen that any foot has a right to be.

Turns out he had broken the middle three toes.... deep in the middle of his foot.

My heart just flutters at the grace and style that took. :)

Oh no! Poor guy! I worry about Riley- Ashlyn has all this natural athletic talent from her dad. Riley is more dough boyish and not athletic like his mom. And the poor boy will have to go to the same high school as his "hall of fame record holding still has way too many people talking about his glory days" father.

YAY!! I'm so happy! I think your shirts are so cool. I will pick one out hopefully today- right now I have a crying little man who thinks he needs my attention! The hard part will be picking one out!
Thank you!!

I'm still a klutz, so I really understand how you feel when you pass the genes on that way. I hope mine's okay with not having a chance for athleticism.

Love that story!! :) Nothing like a good story to go with an injury. :)

Hey, I have a new idea for Josh - the REASON he doesn't have any athletic ability (in the future, of course) is because of this huge foot injury he had when he was 11 where he bruised the bone and tore all the muscles on the top of his foot. He was playing football in gym class, and it's never been the same since. Ta-da!

But hey, at least he didn't think he broke it while waxing the car like my husband! ;)

Luke's injury sounds EXACTLY like the one my mom got last month when she was walking to her seat to see the Osmonds in concert (hey, we're in Utah. The Osmonds are like royalty here). Football/Osmond concert....same difference.

AND. Congrats to the winner. Did I forget to enter? I suck. Course, those random number thingys HATE my guts.

OOPS! I so meant Josh's injury. I'm still stuck on the whole high pee thing I think...

Congrats Jenny H!! I am so envious!! And poor Josh!! I do hope he is up and walking soon. I did that to my ankle. I still feel pain every now and then. I say I am like a 80 year old. I can tell you when it's going to rain because my ankle hurts.

He just needs a good cover story! When I was working on the ambulance I took a patient into the ER one night. Walking himj to his room, I passed a firefighter with his leg propped-up on a stack of blankets and his helmet. On my way back out, I stopped and asked him what had happened. He immediately started telling this story about a house fire and about the floor giving way as he was trying to get out of the flame-engulfed house with an 8-year-old child. *Swoon* I almost drew the curtains and offered to make the pain go away right then and there. Except he instantly felt bad for lying, and immediately admitted that he had actually turned his ankle getting out of the engine. I suspect he went home alone that night.

Hope he is up and around soon!

At least he didn't twist it falling off his front sidewalk like I did. Stupid sprain haunts me with every pregnancy.
Hope he mends super-quick, and I like Michelle's idea for a cover story. :)

Awww! Poor Josh! Does he have to wear one of those boots?

He will totally need to come up with a better story! He's imaginative though, I'll bet he can embellish the football story some.
