Music To My Ears

For some odd reason, Micah does not like for me to sing. When I sing him a song, or sing along with the radio, or sing because I'm happy, he playfully slaps me, laughs and looks at me like "stop with the insanity already!" The only exception I've found is the Eensy Weensy Spider, but it has to be complete with hand motions. And it cannot be silly either. It must be the traditional version with no highs, no lows, and nothing fancy.

So being the holiday season, I was singing Christmas carols the other night. He gave me the evil eye, complete with cute grin. That did not stop me. He slapped me playfully and said "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" like he always does. We have no idea what it means in that context. And then he remembered that he had a Voice. He walked over to his Talker, and pushed STOP MOM.

I'm so thrilled that my son has a Voice so that he can tell me to be quiet. Merry Christmas to me!

Have you ever made Micah a Woody shirt? It would be so cute.

Oh Karen! That is such fabulous news! Okay, so maybe not that he said Stop Mom, but the fact that he used his Voice and talked to you! Tears of joy!

That is hilarious! Go Micah! I do have to say that I don't know what I'd do if the wee ones didn't like my singing. I do it way too often, and it's one of my great soothing mechanisms with them (like the 9 times I put Little Miss to sleep tonight with one of our two special songs).

I know a little girl with autism who recently got a voice on loan from her school. If mom wanted to talk and the little girl didn't she'd type "gotta go mom, bye" and shut the device.

Stories like Micah's are why I'm so glad these devices exist.

Good old Micah keeping you in line! I think it is funny that he doesn't like you to sing unless it is that one particular song.

That is what the season is about -- miracles and keeping parents in line!

So glad to hear about his progress. Your singing, on the other hand...not so much :)

This had me giggling. My daughter just hates when I sing. How exciting that Micah can express his disapproval!

I forgot to ask, was it a one button push (a phrase all in one button) or was it a 2 button push (he had to access the words in separate places)? Because if he is combining buttons to make 2 word phrases already that is AWESOME!!

I will never take my children telling me to stop singing (yes, a lot) for granted again, Karen. What a cute reminder that we're all so blessed!!

THAT is a mighty fine shirt Micah has on, wonder where you got that....

with my limited typing ability i am reading but not commenting these days -- yeah a punishment for the wordy-one. i read (i had some catching up to do -- you writey-one), i laughed, i blushed (tp and thongs in one reading -- oh my) ... and then i read this AND CRIED GREAT TEARS OF JOY. what a gift.

p.s.
matthew covers his ears when people sing. people shower him with apologies in church.
