On The Third Day of December Micah Learns A New Word

Micah's speech is coming right along. He's trying out more and more words all the time, and telling the pastor's wife where to go. We're so proud. (She said with much sarcasm.) But there's something that you've gotta realize about his speech. Once he says a word, it does not automatically make it part of his vocabulary. He may say something once, and you'll never hear it again. As in years later. It's this quirk that I'm counting on with his latest word.

The boy has sensory issues. If he gets a shirt wet, he'll immediately take it off. It's so much better to be cold, you know, than to be a damp. So after spilling water down his shirt front the other day, he stripped it off and ran around the house happily freezing. I got him a dry shirt, tracked him down, and said, "you're not a nudist. Put a shirt on."

"Nooonis."

Thankfully he hasn't repeated it since. That's just what I want him going to school with. This year for Christmas? He'll call his teacher a nudist. I wonder if that would be in lieu of a gift?

There are so many ways to be naked... maybe his teacher will just realize that maybe she went without her jewelry that day? :)

I'll pass on the handwriting book, but would welcome a little nudist anytime. :)

So cool! Was just talking about Handwriting Without Tears with a teacher at Oliver's school. I would LOVE this. Oliver is great with a ball but fine motor is a huge challenge for him.

Oh my goodness! Are you talking about Riley? He too says words once and then I never hear it again- well, except for momma!

Handwriting without tears- that would be awesome!

Umm, lucky you? I love the words that kids pick up. And use repeatedly. In context.

And I've heard SUCH good things about Handwriting Without Tears. That would be the coolest coolest thing :) Just sayin'

HA! I sooo understand what you are saying. I have heard a few words out of my child's mouth over the years only to be disappointed that she refuses to repeat it and then if she does, it's only at prompting, but at her own accord!

Noooonis! LOL!

Not to be deterred by my continued lack of success, I comment again, with all the hope of a mom who spent an hour looking at Walt Disney World vacation packages, thinking that it won't be crowded at all in March during Spring Break.

Micah's choice of words seriously could be SOOO much worse. And I'm sure at some point it will be. ;-)

That's actually not so bad. I so wish that was the latest in our house.
Sasha?
Loves to look at decorations for Christmas and ask for the angels...by saying "Need Angel". Only he says angel wrong. With no 'G'. Loudly. In Church during mass.

I love these type books! I wish this one was around when my son was learning to write. This would make a great christmas present!

Ooo - neat book. I just saw some of their sample pages online. I think Tommy would love this. He's pretty good at recognizing letters and practices tracing /writing his names, so I think it would be right up his alley.

That book would be awesome!

Very cool that Micah is coping you. That is progress!!

Yeah for Micah ...

Nudist is a great word!

And Mom, you know they will always take that ONE word you don't want to hear out of that ONE instance when you lost your brain for a second ... instead of the other 3 thousand words you say in a day.

Yeah, that could have been much worse! Nooonis is actually pretty cute. I do so love Micah.
