Titles are Overrated. And There Are a Lot of Pictures

It was one of those interesting kind of weeks that I really have no desire to repeat. Fun, exciting, busy, productive, but please. Let's just let it be one of a kind, shall we?

Yesterday the school called and said that while they were outside for a fire drill, Micah ralphed. They have a no-ralphing policy there so I had to go get him. I don't send sick kids to school (or anywhere else for that matter) and his aide said that it was all mucus. (I hope you weren't eating anything.) But they have that policy, so I had to quickly shower and go pick him up. That whole SAHMs have no need of showering first thing in the morning because we've got nowhere to go sometimes comes around to bite me. He spent the rest of the day eating, playing, and running outside because it was absolutely gorgeous. Mother Nature was having a good day. She's over herself now though. Winter is back.

Since Micah was fine all day yesterday, all evening, and all night, I sent him to school this morning. They called and said he tossed his cookies on the van, and he didn't pack a lunch. The van driver graciously turned around and brought him right back home. She said it was mucus again. While I should be peeved that he's swallowing snot by the bucket loads and keeping himself out of school for it, it was very nice to have a day of just me and my baby. I miss him sometimes. And he wasn't even sick, so we just had fun together.

You know that I don't really have a life since I don't even shower until mid afternoon sometime, so I'm not sure how I ended up with two lunch dates today. It all worked out in the end, but what are the odds? Oh, and it was so nice to have a lunch date. I felt like I had a life for an hour or so there.

The kids school Valentines parties are tomorrow. I prepared accordingly of course. I carefully chose snacks for Micah's class that did not have peanuts or chocolate because of food allergies in the room. THEN Sam told me that the note said "no food." I had to try for Gifts: Round Two today. I love the party aisle at Wal-Mart. Those mega-packs of bona fide stuff are da bomb. No pack is complete without play-doh and bouncy balls among them.

Luke's class needed snacks for a party so I thought mini cupcakes would be oh-so-fun. They were. But how on earth could I be in town 3 days this week stocking up for Friday and still not have frosting? I would have sworn I had my act all together at one point, but apparently I forgot where I put it. I spied a tub of marshmallow fluff in the pantry and with the help of Rachel Ray Dot Com I found a recipe for frosting that was quick and easy. And sugary enough to give the kids diabetes.

Because the Valentines parties aren't a big enough hassle to prepare and coordinate for, the PTA (in all their infinite wisdom) decided to auction off baskets of goodies for a fundraiser. Items are due tomorrow. Josh's class is doing one in a Steelers theme. Dude. That stuff is spendy. I made a tote bag because I had the fabric in my stash. Hand up the one who spotted my deliberate mistake. Ahem.

I've been working on some new designs for the shop because new is always exciting. Since I know nothing about seafood, a friend helped me to get the sushi just so.

That was early in the day. After the lunch date, the Valentines packs, the cupcakes and frosting, and the PTA bag, I tried my hand at a golf design. Apparently the witching hour had passed because it just wasn't happening. Here are some of the golf designs that I had in mind. It's always good to have a backup because while they may look stellar on paper sometimes they don't translate well to fabric.

I started with the golf bag since it was one of the hands down favorites of the family.

Since that was an epic fail (travel mug, anyone?) I decided to go for the golf cart.

Apparently it's one of those paper-only designs. And the floating golf heads that look rather like mouse droppings behind the cart would be attached with stitching. I'm not that far gone yet.

I'd like to think that tomorrow will get better, but I graciously volunteered to babysit my friends' kids while her and her hubby go away for the romantic weekend. That will double the kid count here. Fun times, fun times. Becky said that there are about a dozen stores closing in the mall (Yippee us. Wherever will we shop now?) so maybe I'll go shopping after the weekend is over.

Oh, and spellcheck flagged Steelers. Spellcheck needs to get with the program.

Love the Steelers bag. No one will notice the tiny mistake I am sure. heh! OK, I see the travel mug golf bag, but hey it is cute. And except for the mice pellets the golf cart is cute.

BTW you can send those cupcakes my way, they look yummy. *drool*

Am I the only one who thinks that the acronym for "PTA" is only missing one acronym for being "PITA" which stands for "Pain in the ..." well, I think you are seeing my point.

I actually think the golf bag has potential. Whatever the issue with it is, it's definitely something about the handle that is making it look "off." It might also be the proportions making it look mug-like. You know, how it's bigger on the top than the bottom? And how the golf clubs are small in comparison to the bag? Anyway, I'm now getting a sense for how hard it actually is to do these shirts. I'm glad all I have to do is buy them instead of me making them. :-D

oh lawdy lawdy, too bad about the snot swallowing....ewwww was that another ralph? poor kid that is yukky.
the cupcakes look great and for a lazy bum who doesn't shower you sure are productive, geez!

Karen Deborah - I find I get more done unshowered. I keep saying I'll shower as soon as this is finished. And then I find more things to do. It kinda works for me.

my kids used to do what we called "gag and barf" ... mucus pukus was their specialty.

(heh. mucus pukus ... i just made that up. not bad!)

Janet - that's why I love you. Mucus pukus will now become part of our daily vocab.

I liked mucus pukus, though I have to say I've never seen it. (But I've seen a giant gash that wasn't bleeding! I posted a picture after the post if you want to see it! Ew! I actually can't look at it!) We use a sick term around my house for when you have things coming out both ends...pooin' and spewin'...sick huh?

Oh that mucus trick is a favorite around here. My Son can pull that one off anytime there is something he doesn't want to eat. (Oh, so annoying!) I have noticed it harder for him to yack it up if he has had apple juice. I don't know if that works for everyone, but for him it does.
Next week will feel like vacation after this week.

Karen - I'll have to try the apple juice trick. Stuff like that is very good to know. Thanks.

crazy week here too. Showers? I been getting mine around 8pm at night lately. I'm not a golfer, so I can't appreciate that design. But I'm a sushi girl and that shirt is adorable!

i kinda liked the golf cart...reminds me of bob and larry without arms...maybe you should just add one of them to the shirt too.

and cupcakes with marshmallow cream. shouting yum!

So marshmallow fluff worked? Great for you. And, RR.

I like the golf cart. What's wrong with it?

I think the shirts are cute! And the sushi one...could you make one of those for my hubby? :)

Okay - I am not a golfer but I really liked the golf bag! I think it translates well! But, then again, what do I know?

Karen said...

Trisha - I'm not a golfer either. My golfer hubbs suggested taking the clubs out and putting a foamy head on the mug.

Spellcheck sucks. There are aaaaall kinds of words that my Wordpress spellcheck has no idea about. Actually, it doesn't even know how to spell Wordpress...
I can see your frustration about the golf one... Very cute ideas and ALMOST very cute shirts. Just a little bit of tweaking, maybe? How about a large golf ball up front and in the background, off to the side a bit, a cup and flag?

Love the sushi shirt.

And I think the golf cart shirt? Has lots of potential. The floating mouse droppings are a little funny, though ;)

I'm not amused that winter has decided to return. Not amused at all.

I got a call like that the other day. The kids didn't have school but I was going to go into the office for the morning. I was in Starbucks when MA called and said Peanut had thown up. I got home and it was just that mucus coughing stuff. I got them some breakfast and headed back to work. She was find the rest of the day.

Love the new designs even if some are trial and error. Course, the golf bag makes me think of a mug of beer. Mmmmm, beer.

Lots of yuck going around, hope Micah gets well soon. My son gets ill on post-nasal drip, too. Milk makes it worse, and water makes it better, in my experience. Love the golf cart! It looks awesome with the stitching (in your shop). :)

Ok so no one has found the mistake? I'm intrigued -- what is it? Being a non-sewer, I'm clueless.

And you're lucky Micah could go back the next day. We have a 24 hours AFTER the puking, etc rule, so our children have to stay home TWO days if there is ANY puke. I hate that rule. Especially when it's diarrhea caused by Sunday School giving Little Miss dairy by accident and it's over in two hours.... Not that we have any personal experience in this.

Has Micah discovered that puking mucus gets a fun day at home with Mommy yet? That would be a fun one to try to get him to reverse....

And the shirts look good -- especially the golf cart one. I think the bag has potential with a longer handle that "sags" down more and the same size top and bottom with an "add-on" on the bottom for all the stuff to be stored. Because you know... I don't play golf either ;)

Can't wait to get our shirt! :)
